I used to have the trial. I called to cancel the trial and got two months extra free because I told them [the truth] that I as a college student going back to school and couldn't afford it.
LOL
I called after those two months (three months into the service) and got ANOTHER THREE FREE MONTHS. :D

yeah, they offered me a free month and then explained the BYOA plan.....i kept saying no thanks, and I could hear him rustling through his papers, trying to find out what to say next.

oh, and why can't you cancel your account online?? because they want that schmuck to badger you to stay w/ AOL. You can completely manage your account online, but when it comes to cancelling, they make you call an 800 number. Sneaky bastards

It is easy as hell to cancel. Also that rustling of papers had nothing to do with trying to find something to say. He was probably reading a magazine.

yea 9.99 for the BYOA plan.

It is $14.95 per month.

So you either pay Comcast $40 per month for the connection and $14.95 per month to AOL for the BYOA service, or you buy "high-speed AOL" for $54.95 and save a buck with support that somehow rivals Comcast's for the worlds worst tech support???

...uh, didn't mean to insult your technical expertise, yakko. We all have faith in you. :)

The biggest problem with AOL's tech support is not really the techs but the craptastic troubleshooting tool they have. Every new version is worse than the one before. The newest incarnation now only lets you select things with the mouse. It no longer has a searchable database so you have to remember where everything is which is impossible because some things you might see once a month. The only good news about the new version is that the code writiers are now burger flippers.

Comcast isn't forcing their members to sign up with AOL, if that's what you're thinking. It's more along the lines of AOL members getting offered to have their connection moved from dialup to "Comcast High Speed Internet"

As stated earlier, I pay $20USD/month for 600k/sec down, and 120k/sec up, including TWO static IP's.

Welcome to Canada.

NO you can't, not anymore. Comcast price has been raised to the same $54 for those who don't also have their cable TV service. COMCAST IS SUCK!!!:|

Cable One's cable access was $59.99 in Biloxi, MS...

...For 512 down/128 up.

Now I get 3000 down/128 up for $35.99. Cool.

$55/month isn't bad at all. I'm paying $50/month for bellsouth DSL (around a meg down and 256k up) and the cable company around here charges from $40-50/month plus a $5/month rental fee of modem (and you don't want their crappy $40/month plan).

Broadband in the US is way way more expensive than in Canada but $55/month is only marginally more expensive than the competition.

Why must it be that way? :|:disgust:
Guess it's time to move to Canada.

It's called "supply and demand." There's a market down here for it. If everybody wants it, the price is going to go up, plain and simple.

First off what sucks about it? Do you not like competition to help keep prices down? Also do you think they are not working on a deal with AT&T?

you guys are jumping the gun too fast. AOL charges 44.95 for its Cable service, they use Roadrunner. if you want to have dialup and cable then its 55 or something.

Hey! I know what this is!!! It's another way for AOL to continue to lose money!!! :p:p:p

Don't you know that's how AOL does business? They buy stuff to inflate their stock and user pool and then proceed to mess it up and lose money so the circle can start again. This way, they can continue to pat their own backs for yet another acquistion!

When I was back in college I would used their trial offers every summer when I was back at home(before broadband hit). The last time I cancelled the account I guess I got a brighter than normal rep and she saw that the same name was being used under different CC numbers and told me that I could no longer use the trial offers.
