Is this a high-performance system?
Yes. It features an Intel® 2.0 GHz Celeron® processor, 256MB of RAM, a 56K modem, 40GB hard drive, 10/100MB Ethernet and comes with Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition pre-loaded.

What is annoying as such, is not the PC as such for $299, but definitely the ad.

"a loaded powerhouse desktop PC" ---- "loaded"? "powerhouse"? This is way beyond ridiculous.

"bumper-to-bumper world-class components" ---- excuse me?

"The spectacular Systemax AOL PC runs on a blazing fast Intel Celeron 2.0GHz CPU" ---- The slowest possible available CPU is "blazing fast"? Care to classify my Athlon64s?

"so many extras that we could fill volumes of literature describing them. Here are just a few ? 52X CD-ROM drive, SIS Integrated Graphics,.." ---- wow, we get SIS integrated graphics. - And why are graphics, sound and CDROM "extras"?

"runs on the award-winning Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system for incomparable performance and stability" ---- Really now? "incomparable"?, incomparable to what? Solaris, MacOS X, Linux? - Maybe MSDOS, that supposedly most other PCs are running on? - And "award-winning"?

OMG! Makes you want to knee some marketing people in the groin.

WTF is a ball bearing mouse?

I suppose they mean non optical as in it cost them sixty five cents amongst other things.

That graphic of the monitor is misleading too. A 17" CRT will NOT measure 17" viewable area yet that is exactly what the graphic depicts.

Cheers!

With boards featuring something similar to voice reporter you could make it say that ;)

BTW, on the one Larry linked I'd be curious what IGP board is coupled with the Duron. It'd be sad if you were paying $220 for 40gb extra HDD space, 256mb of ram, a dvd/cdrw combo, fdd, and winDVD because the NW celery 2.6ghz gets stomped by the Duron 1.6ghz and extreme IGP might also be slower than the base AMD systems.
