AOL Instant Messenger....Is there a way.....

Is there a way with AOL Instant Messenger to not have the messages pop up in front of you when you are in normal online mode? I know that when you are in 'away' mode, there is a setting you can uncheck in the preferences so that the messages don't pop in front of you when someone sends you an IM, but is there a way to do that when you're in normal mode? If they went straight to your taskbar, they don't interrupt the work you are in the middle of. Thanks for your help.

You could just put an away message up. Since you don't want to be bothered.

Or not use AIM when you want to do work.

i know...ain't that a b*tch...i hate it when i'm typing something and it pops up..or when I'm talking to one person then it pops up...but i don't think there's a way unfortuantly...even with AIM+.

Last I saw AIM+ is working on tabbed IM widnows so you don't have that problem. It is the only feature I think regular AIM needs.

I'd like to see offline messaging. Also, being able to leave an away message while your computer isn't on would be nice (and be able to receive messages while it's off, as well, sort of like ICQ). I'd sort of like to be able to turn off my computer at night and still be able to get messages.

Not being at the computer to get the messages right away kind of defeats the purpose of an instant messenger.

use trillian, there is a setting that allows it to alert you of a inc. message from the system tray, much like icq.

Yes, while I agree with that, I leave my computer on all the time, with IM running. So does everyone else that I know here at school. It's just a more convenient way of contacting someone than going to the school's homepage and looking up their phone number and calling them. If I'm in class or whatever and someone has a question, they just IM me and I answer it when I get back. I like it better than the answering machine, because I don't always see when there's a message on it. I dunno, that's just me.
