I have an pay for AOL (parents), and I use AIM with my AOL screen name. They cancel AOL and I lose that name, can I keep it somehow?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: from my post below

yeah the thing is, when my dad cancelled, it wouldnt allow me to login anymore, said "suspended account"

and I couldn't re-sign up with that name.

so its activited for a month or so now.
Edit 2 from another post of mine
I have been using my aol screen name with instant messanger for a while now. However now that the AOL account was cancelled, it says suspended when I try to log onto AIM. The AOL account is reactivated but only for a month. Can anyone confirm that AOL has changed to prevent people from quitting and keeping their screen name?

just login to AIM using your old AOL screen name. Worked for me when I canned them about 3 years ago.

Yes, just log onto your aol sn via aim and it should activate it as an aim account.

i remember a long time ago you had to sign up your aol screen name to use on AIM, but i guess you dont have to anymore. you used to have to enter your zipcode to confirm it or whatever

I think they'll block you. I had an AOL account for a few years (just so I could look up people's profile on AOL since several of my friends were on it) and when I cancelled it I couldn't use the same AIM name. Let me check though.

Interesting, it's telling me wrong password even though I know it's correct. And it won't let me sign up with the name either, says it's in use.

When you have an AOL accnt, make sure you make an AIM while it's active.

You can cancel it and then use it. You can't register for it if you are signing up to AIM as a new member.

That may be my problem, I wasn't using AIM back then so I never used it with my AOL account.

when i cancelled my aol account, they told me i couldn't continue to use aim with the same sn and that doing so would reactivate the account. i never tried it so i can't really confirm that's what happened, i just created a new sn and told everyone about it.
