AOL hits 21 million customers mark!

meanwhile, I bet half of that 21 million will end their patronship after that 700 hours is over.


on the other hand, my rant:
I was replying a message in the For Sale Trade forum, after done typing a looong reply, I click send, then realize I can't post with an AOL account which my roomate has while I was on it. I can LOG ON with it, click reply and type. this suck coz all that words are gone and I need to type it up again, is it possible to give a warning BEFORE log on?
 
i'll bet a lot of those accounts are just people keeping their AOL email accounts alive but have moved to a real ISP. email addresses are the biggest reason people keep with their ISP.
 
Ahh, AOL. They really get a worse rap than they deserve....sure, AOL sucks, but it really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Mind you, I use SegaNet, the best 56K ISP available.
 
It's why I keep my AOL account. And that's also probably MAIL accounts, not necessarily actual users. They probably base it on the number of screen names that are active (and for all we know, they count ones that haven't been used in ages or which were deleted). So for me, I could as like 5 or 6 users because of my own screen names and the ones my ex-gf uses on my account.

But...if it were 21 million users, imagine...nearly 10% (and probably soon a full 10%) of America is using AOL... (assuming that only a small percentage of the 21 million are non-American, most of them are far too smart for that).
 
Well that reassures me that 10% of the internet using america definatly knows less then I.

I dont see why someone would pay to keep a @aol.com email address.
Whats the point?
Is it hard to email your address list and tell them the address is changing?
 
don't ask too much... the Big Brother is watching...

anyhow, AOL is invading HongKong and china too... quite ambitious of them... consider HK has tons of local ISP already and China is still quite not modem-ready COUNTRY wide...
 
They have a horrid rep, but my siblings at home still use them. No down time, plenty of access numbers, and the software hasn't fvcked the computers yet. Would have been rid of it if Verizon had gotten off their a$$ and activate the DSL line like they said they would...
 
I'm pretty sure that number counts all people past and present, which means I'm on that list, thrice (got kicked off twice for cursing in a teenager chat room); and it probably counts individual screen names, not accounts. Chances are there are only 4-5 million stupid morons paying for AOL at this given time.
 
find me another isp that caters to me like they do out of country..oh, well, you tried

when i get home, it's another matter... running cable on this rig and running the servers off of sdsl

 
well, considering that 98% of all computers (retail comps mind you) come with MIE or NetNav...all an AOL user has to do is simply log on through aol. And then open a new Explorer/NetNav window and come visit AnAndTech with something to say!! Of course, anyone who uses AOL really wouldn't understand such a technical process.

p.s. aol doesn't allow posting to outside forums cuz they're greedy and want people to participate in AOL BBS/conversations/chats only. Besides, they advertise as much as Coca Cola does...in fact, everywhere you can buy Coca-Cola, they give you a CD!! That curiously resembles laundry detergent in design

I love AOL...they're stock has made me a happy person. Their isp isn't really that bad...never had a problem with it when i used it..just a little expensive.
 
I have AOL... and have had my account since 1991... was a member of AOL before they were AOL.. when they were QLink... I like the service, and even tho i use a cable provider for access, I still keep my AOL account (granted I haven't paid for it in 4 years... had a free one when i did voulenteer work for them... and when they converted me back to pay when i left,i had accumulated credit on my creditcard for free time.. so i'm still not paying) for Email, chat, and believe it or not, their Newsgroup access. I like the interface.

ha! you haven't installed AOL 6.0 then... most evil version to date... does some serious crud to the network settings... INCLUDING installing VPN adapters which wont go away and NetBEUI support... on top of screwing with the Winsock2.dll files which make anything net suck.
