Guys,

I recently rebuilt a buddy's system - XP Pro SP2 and IE6. He travels frequently and came home recently to find that any link he clicks on in an email redirects to AOL Internet Browser, instead of IE6.

One - why is this happening, and two - how does one correct it? I looked in Add/Remove Apps and there's no reference to it there. What do I do to make links in email messages go to IE6?

TIA,

Jeff

AOL has a very long history of invading a person's system. My recommendation is to get rid of AOL entirely, uninstall their software, and then run a good registry cleaner to get rid of all traces of it. The last time that I did that, my cleaner found 1500 keys to erase. There are other services as good as AOL, and cheaper.

Would AOL AIM cause this? I've not seen that before. My buddy is running high speed on Comcast. Has not installed AOL on this system, expect for the AIM.

Out of curiosity, if you go to Add/Remove Programs and then click on Set Program Access & Defaults, can you reassert IE6 as the browser?

There's no reason to uninstall AOL.

go to the control panel > internet options > programs > make IE the default web browser
