My gf bought a Belkin router and she can't get it to work with AOL DSL. She called CSR and they said AOL only works with Linksys routers? I haven't tried to installed it myself. My gf said that none of her friends (guys included) have been able to get a router to work with AOL. Is it that hard? I will go to her house tomorrow and see what I can do.

The linksys routers have an option built into the firmware to properly log on to the AOL network.

Um.. what kind of AOL modem do you have? Probably an actiontec one. If the linksys is a pure router it will work regardless because the actiontec mdoem is the only thing that needs to "log" on to the AOL network.

That's what I told her. Now here's the catch: She wants to get Verizon DSL (cable is really slow in that area according to her friends) AOL says that it will take at least 30 days to release the telephone line, but they can't guarantee when they will do it. Verizon can't do sh!t until AOL releases the line.

Yet another reason to hate AOL. Cancelling their service is a nightmare. I've helped several people do it, and sometimes it seems like it requries a court order. They're just downright spiteful and nasty about it. I've even seen cases where AOL told them that the service was cancelled only for the billing to continue.
Her only solution there is for her to be nasty in return. Have her call AOL and demand faster release of the line. Document all such calls. Files complaints with the BBB and state attorney general. Call Verizon to see how they can help.
