Agh! AOL is yet agin blocking trillian users. They are working on a patch, but it is not yet availible. Check out the Trillian Discussion Forums

EDIT: A new vesion of trillian was just released which is suposed to fix the AOL connection thing. I'm going to give it a shot now. Their download site is being hammered though. BTW, download.com still says its version .721, but when you download it, its .722.

What I don't get is this: if AOL was forced to open their standard in order to avoid an FTC investigation, then what is the point of blocking other clients besides their greed? They must know that they'll be smacked for anti-competitiveness in the end over this.

It appears that they're blocking non AOL infected ICQ clients as well such as 99b

Aparantly, an update was just posted. DLing now.

EDIT: Yes, the update does fix the AIM connection problem...for now 😉

yay, it's downloading now for me. will post it on my site as soon as it's done, then anyone else who wants to can mirror it so I don't get hammered. 😉

Although it's kind of a hassle to have to download a new version or find a way around something else every other day, I have to admit that this is kind of exciting and entertaining for me.

I can only imagine how the Trillian coders feel. These two guys are going toe-to-toe with one of the biggest companies in the world. I imagine that the AOL people think that by changing something every other day, they're going to discourage the Trillian guys from trying after awhile. My guess is that it has the opposite effect: the more AOL tries to keep them out, the harder the Trillian coders are going to get Trillian to work again.

If anything this must be generating more income for the trillian programmers, I bet they get more donations as a result of battling with AOL and fixing the problems so quickly.

Same thing happend with Odigo. Seemed like every day they were blocking it and Odigo was finding work arounds. I ended up dropping Odigo and going with Imici for a while because I hated the happy goofy interface that Odigo had. Thank god for trillian. Its been my godsend at home. Now, if only they brought in working secure proxy authentication and Lotus Sametime support, i could use it here at the office. 🙂
