AOL and the ALL CAPS disease.

Russ

Lifer
What is with this? Seems like most of the mail I get from AOL users is either all caps, or all bold, or both. And, they NEVER quote back previous mail. A month can go by and they just assume that, out of the hundreds of eMails I've gotten in the interim, I'll just naturally remember exactly what we were discussing.

I've also noticed that if an eBay listing is all caps, it's invariably somebody with a @aol.com address.

I hate that, also usually sent in html which bugs me too.

Oh, and to add to my list I got an aol message from a woman I used to work with today, had all the above annoyances, plus they don't sign their name, like I'm really supossed to know who iluvaol or whoever is really supposed to be.

<< Yep. All caps, lots of asterisks, and third-grade English... >>

Say hello to American consumers. It's the same within high school IT departments, too. Teachers assume that using caps or bolding makes it more compelling for one to come fix their problems.

<< I give some clients support via AIM... shudder,it's even worse than email ! >>

Are you daft, woman? 😀

I limit the AIM hours availabilty and they pay extra for it, they also don't have my personal aim nic

Nice!

I use AIM on a daily basis, find it to be user friendly, and less of a clutter than ICQ. However the ALL CAPS users are quite annoying.

AOL has no option to automatically include the text from the mail you're replying to. You have to highlight the entire text, THEN hit reply.

As for all caps, who knows?

Netiquite is dieing.😱 People just don't care about the "rules" of the net, and instead are reverting back to using human emotion, where bigger and bolder gets more attention. Down with the newbies I say, down with the newbies.:|

Yep, I agree. Often I wish people should be made to take numerous courses and pass numerous tests before they are ever allowed to touch a computer.

There should be a test, like a driving test, before you are allowed near a modem. The cap lock key should be removed anyway, does anyone use it regularly? Please. replace it with something useful, like a "shock user" key.

Look at it from the other side. Type in all caps and get yelled at by a zillion folks who proclaim they subscribe to "netiquette". From a layman's perspective, Caps = Shouting is laughable.

Reading a post from someone who uses all caps is just plain hard for me to read. I just skip it. It is probably a 14 year old kid who has no clue anyway.
