AoC: where are you playing?

IMO this is not good. I actually "like" certain classes to have certain roles. It's what makes playing different classes different. If you want to heal / buff, play a priest, if you want to dps like made play a dps class. It just takes away from the immersion for me

I can't really comment on how it actually works in the upper levels, I've only had the chance to get a Conquerer up to 18, and a Priest of Mitra up to like 9. But I do hope that classes have certain roles to play in groups.

Oh, I have Robb the 18 Conquerer on Zug, but not sure where I'll end up eventually.

Robb's now 40 with a fuzzy new war mammoth. New sure what good it does other than add an insane amount of health though. It also pretty much likes to lumber on in a straight line too

All the classes have their roles, it's just that they have multiple roles. I was a WoW raid healbot for about two and a half years before I quit and sold my account. Did I have my defined role that guaranteed me a raid spot? Sure. But that role was also boring as all hell in a majority of encounters.

Healing in AoC is very different than in any other MMO, and a healbot (focused on healing to the exclusion of all else) is simply not supported. Look at it this way: the job of a healbot is to cast heal spells. The job of an AoC healer is to keep their group alive. A healbot is useless doing anything other than healing; an AoC healer is busy doing DPS and helping kill stuff faster. I can't tell you how many raids I went on where apart from remembering to stand on the right spot until you have to move when the raid warning came, you could have half the raid watching TV, reading a book, and chatting on the phone in the middle of a raid encounter and still kill it easily.

The different roles are still very much there, they're just different than they are in other games, and it takes some time to adapt. The gameplay really starts feeling different around level 30 when you get some more difficult quests and most of the classes start getting fleshed out with their feats. If you're 18 and still in Tortage, it's a very different game.

I just hit 18 tonight. I love the game so far, I hope it does not change that much! I was a raider in WoW for almost three years and I am glad I quit WoW so far.

Hmmm.. how is the higher level PvP in this game? I played at a friends last week and had a level 10 priest in under 2 hours. Was pretty decent and I did enjoy killing a few random characters out in the wild.

Edit - Sounds like I'll have to play on Deathwhisper if I do buy the game.

Almost all the major PvP guilds are there, most of them are in the 70s if not 80 yet. Unless you are up there you probably wont see them.

Edited OP to make it a little bit more useful. My PoM is 56 but I out leveled most of my guild and realized that leveling solo at 50+ was something of a mistake, so I started working on alts to see which class I really wanted to play.
