Hey,

I want to get Age of Conan. I currently have a (1.8ghz)x2 939 AMD, 2gigs of ram and a 8600GT. I do not think I can get by on this.. hehe. Even more so, I play at 1900x1280!

Anyone in beta can tell me what is the cheapest card I can buy that can play this game in 1080P with good eye candy?

I was thinking of this
8800GT

9600GT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814134038

but I currently have a fanless system which I very much enjoy, I am afraid it will hamper this. I guess there are no good silent top end cards unless I mod them huh?

Thanks for input.

A 8800GT would be about the top of the line I would choose now. Reason being is because in the latter half of the year better video cards will be out and you may want one of those instead of whats current so no need to spend more money than necessary. Besides that AoC doesnt need a real high end card to make it look good. Luckily for us gamers MMO games dont require as much gpu power as some single player games like Crysis, and etc.,

I played the PvP weekend which was running on an old sub-optimized version of the client. The current one runs much smoother. I was playing 1920x1200 with the rig in my sig with no AA/shadows. 60 fps average with dips in the 40s with multiple stuff on the screen. Gonna try the new client tomorrow morning, gonna update with how it's running.

I would get the 9600

I have a 8800GTX right now, and this card is simply too big. It's so big that I had to buy a new case for it, and a new power supply. It's so big that it even takes up one of the hard drive slots on the other side of the case.

I was running it on a 8800gts 512 int he closed beta, ran fine at 1920x1080 (1080p) with everything on pretty much. I got into the next beta on FP, I'm going to try it out today when I get home from work, I'll post some numbers on here with fraps or something.

I have a 9600 and honestly can't tell much difference in room volume when the pc is on or off.

I can get to the character creation screen and after creating, Iand enter the game, I get a black screen and cursor along with music. Tried every suggestion I could find- drivers, changing the res to la low one, using the exe in directory instead of shortcut. BLAH!

Thanks. After going back to my original drivers, it suddenly worked.

I have an 8800GT 512 mb card and if I turn off bloom and shadows, it runs at about 40-45 FPS at 1680x1050. i also have 4 gb of ram and an e8400 oc'ed to 3.6 ghz.

Understand that during this open beta there are a LOT of debuggers going on in the backround while you're playing, so performance will be affected. If you go PixelShader 2.0 and turn off shadows in the video options, it helps a bit.

BTW no DirectX10 optimisation in the beta. Remember, you're stressing out the servers during beta, not your system.

OP, I'd recommend getting a better CPU before video card. I play with a 9600GT at 1680x1050. Pretty good card at that resolution.

I've got an e2180 @ 3.5ghz and an 8800GTS 512. I maxed all the detail settings and it generally runs fine. but in Tortage City CPU use is maxed out and I get some bad lag sometimes. So, I'm pretty sure the game is primarly CPU limited here.

Definitly upgrade the CPU. I think you probably will need a card upgrade also if you want the resolution you want and the 8800GT is a perfect for that and I've seen it as cheap as the 9600 these days.

Also whoever mention the 8800GTX it's a bigger card then the GT so the OP does not need to worry about it.

Thanks for the info.

I am thinking of going with this, cheap yet, overclockable. The only thing that really worries me is the lack of good onboard sound and only 2 slots for memory. I do have a augidy1 SE right now, but I wanted some onboard HD options, since I have a small case and more cards just isnt good.

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX

Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65w

Not bad for under 300 bucks.. I can overclock that E7200 beyond 3ghz, be cheap and easy to do that. Yes I know I need a video card, but in late june or so I can get the new ATi/Geforces that will come out.

The CPU/mobo/ram will be the best upgrade for now? If the game is such a CPU hog, should I spring for a Q6600, I do use my PC as a HTPC and game, all around type thing. The only thing that I hate about the Q6600 is the heat output and the new 45m quads are way over priced for my budget, since I have a small matx case, I gotta keep that in mind. I hate fans :D

I would at last have a top of the line system!

Besides the extra ram slots what else does it offer for a $40 more in price?

I know the G31 does not have 1:1 memory devider, but with DDR800 I dont think that will be a problem, if anything, I can underclock the ram.

The one thing besides price of the G33 is that it looks like one of the stata ports will be blocked on long double wide video cards.
