I think this stuff with the CBP transcends breaking crooked banker's balls. Some of the stuff in that facebook group is intolerable from people we pay to enforce our laws. If the job tolerates or requires that kind of dickishness then we need to change the job. We can't have a system where such attitudes are coping mechanisms.

She missed a golden opportunity to go "so you expect the person that was participating in this group to investigate it?" later when she showed that the CBP head was part of it (and he had earlier said that the CBP head was looking into it and takes it very seriously). "Do you really think she views it as not acceptable if she was partaking in it herself?"

Another aspect is, how many people work for them? My point being, what's the ratio of the 10,000 of the group to the overall? For him to say that it isn't everyone in the organization or that it was actually dehumanizing because not even all the people part of the Facebook group support that behavior. Which ok, so why did fucking no one do anything about it? Its not like the head person could claim ignorance, they were part of the fucking group.

She should've called out when he said that they provide therapy for the workers perpetrating this (his concern is clearly them above all). They're not the ones that need that, its the people they're treating like garbage that do. Actually scratch that they are the ones that need it. They absolutely do, and the issue is that type of stuff is voluntary when it clearly should be mandatory because these people are acting like fucking psychopaths and unaware of how being indoctrinated into this agency is affecting their mental state. We've seen the same in a lot of groups. Its like drug users, they generally can't comprehend how its negatively affecting them until it hits a sobering low point. But when its systemic within an organization, that low point might not happen until a major catastrophe.

Thanks for the link.
The article isn't nearly as informative as I expected. The handful of posts presented were crass and bigoted, the worst being against AOC herself. But it certainly isn't an indictment against all ten thousand members of the group, nor did it present any evidence of a "dehumanized culture". My guess is a couple people will get canned, there will be a sensitivity program put in place, and the whole thing will dry up and blow away.
AOC's comments were a nice bit of hyperbole, but hardly a compelling argument. I agree with her that people arrested at the border or awaiting hearings should be treated well, but it's also obvious that the system is overwhelmed, and collapsing under the weight of so many people seeking to enter the US.

And there you go with that common sense again.

Oh, please. The Trump admin is holding as many migrants as they possibly can for as long as they can before releasing them into this country to await adjudication of their cases. Which is ultimately what will be done with nearly all of them if they don't consent to deportation to get out of jail. The situation is totally contrived to extract the maximum cruelty permitted by law & then some.

Meanwhile, the reasons people would drag their little kids 1500 miles to take a chance on America don't seem to matter at all. It's a failure of our own leadership, given that the govts of the northern triangle are vassal states to American Empire.

To Trump and his ilk these people looking for a better way of life are less than human, will be a drain on our economy and are a disease contaminating the purity of the nation that the descendants of the Mayflower represent.

For Trump and his corporate sponsors, these folks seeking asylum should have come in over the fences instead of through the gates where they could then be exploited as slave labor like so many others that are now "invisible" entities being used as nothing more than grease in the sprockets and gears of big business.

If Trump is concerned about those he is detaining on the border he could always re-adopt the Obama era rules.

It’s important to remember that the current humanitarian crisis on the southern border was created by Trump as part of a purposeful policy of brutalizing migrants in order to discourage immigration.

It's mostly to keep the xenophobes & the racists nicely riled up & irrational. Tell them their way of life is being attacked! It actually is, not by migrants but rather by ruthless capitalism. It comes with our obesiance to the rights of ownership. They own, we don't, so they can do what they want. They don't owe us anything. Suck it up, losers.
