AOC Monitor: Out of Focus

I've just bought a new AOC 9K+ (19" Pure FlatFace CRT). The "normal recommended" mode is 1280x1024 @ 85 Hz. When I set up this mode and viewed some photographs, everything looked fine; I was quite impressed. However, when I then went back to reading email and other text-based things, problems became apparent, the main one being that pixels in adjacent rows do not line up correctly.

[EDIT: Didn't realize that leading whitespace was stripped, making the example useless.]

It's not that severe, but it's enough that I couldn't stand to live with it. This is only in the upper half(ish) of the screen, by the way; the lower half is fine.

So, I tried changing the refresh rate to 75 Hz. In this case, the problem described above was gone. However, there was now a fuzzy area towards the bottom-left corner of the screen. This was not too bad, but enough that it might give you a headache after a prolonged session.

What do you think? Is this completely not to be expected? Should I return the monitor for a replacement? I started questioning whether I was making a big deal of nothing, but, the more I think about it, I don't think I am. I guess I'm just wondering if this is a manufacturing defect that others have seen before.

Thanks for any input or advice!

After using it for a couple more days and having a couple other people look at it, I'm certain that the out-of-focus problem is unacceptable. I guess I was just worried that you get what you pay for (this was a fairly cheap monitor, for its size), and that this was to be expected.

So, I've requested a returns number, and I'm thinking of forgetting about this model and paying the extra for a 17" LCD instead. Now I just have to worry about the dead pixel problem. (From what I've read, it seems that this is becoming less of a problem these days.)

Thanks for the reassurance. :)

Good inexpensive CRT Monitors are from Daytek made by Daewoo.

I own 3 - 19" flat screen models and they perform extremely well for the price.

See if your distributor offers Dayteks.

You will be pleasantly surprised.

I haven't seen the name Daytek on any of the sites I've looked at. Maybe it's an American thing?

I usually don't skimp on things, figuring you get what you pay for, and it's better just to lay down the extra cash at the beginning, and it will pay for itself in the end. I think I'm going to stick to this principle. :)

Nobody seems to have them in stock right now, but I think I'm going to wait for an Iiyama E431S. The old 15" ADI Microscan is perfectly adequate to tide me over until then. (The image is just becoming slightly dull due to age. It must be ten years old now!)

I hadn't considered it before, but the E431S has a DVI input. (The alternative, and slightly more readily available, E430 does not.) Since I'm expecting this monitor to outlast my current PC, this would be good. :)
