my dad's girlfriends son needed a new monitor. i was pushed for time to order this thing and not sure if i made the best choice. she wanted to spend about 150$ on a 17". it is an AOC 7VLR. i know they are crappy monitors. it was 175$ at amazon with free shipping. i added the cendyne cdrw and used a 50 off 200. this will make that drive 29$ after rebate :) the only place i could find any reviews was on cnet, 91% for and 9% against out of 46 votes. i called the company's rma department and someone actually answered which is a good sign. 3 year warranty. could i have made a better choice for around the same price? they have a proview ps715 but i cant find any reviews on it. there is also a kds vs-71 which had poor reviews. and a hansol multitech 710a, no reviews. i mean im just looking for something cheap that will work ok for around that price, did i make an ok choice? anyone have opinions on those other monitors listed?

It'll be OK. I'm using an AOC 7GLR at the moment, and it has been perfectly fine for over 2 years now. Obviously there are better monitors out there, but when since you are buying on a budget (as I was) you will be OK.

If there is one component that you do not want to go cheap on it is the one thing that you stare at for long hours - the monitor. I would get a step up say a Samsung, Viewsonic or KDS value line.

right regalk, i use a 21" p series viewsonic. monitor is the last thing you want to skimp on but when it comes to someone else they think differently. she just wants cheap :( she would be 10x better off spending 50$ more and getting a samsung, but that's 33% more than she wanted to spend. just wanting the monitor to be OK for the 175$ price. just if it will work fine for the price is what im concerned about. 150$ is a hard budget to work on for a decent monitor.
