I just want to see if anyone out here works for a company that has the "Hire Veterans First" policy.

I am just now going on terminal leave from the Air Force. I worked as a 3C2 Network Infrastructure Technician. I have a Top Secret security clearance.

I don't mind changing career fields. I am a lightening fast learner when it comes to hands on training, so as long as the career doesn't require years of book learning, I can be up to par real quick. I have a strong worth ethic. I always arrive to work at least 30 minutes early. I have no problem staying late, and I have been on 24 hour recall for the last four years.

Shoot me a PM if you got any questions for me, company websites, offers, etc.

Thanks for viewing.

you should check out military contractors like raytheon, lockheed, or trw; they will value your top secret clearence a lot more then anyone else will.

You would have no problem getting a job in the DC metro area, that clearance is gold here. Sorry I have dropped out of the contracting game so I don't have any links or contacts to give you though.

Put yourself up on Monster/Hotjobs, with a background like that offers will just be rolling in.

Yeah. Former mil with a TS clearance - you'd get plenty of offers from defense contractors.

Most defense contractors will snap you up in a jiffy with an active TS in hand.

Dice.com has a section for Security clearance jobs.

Also look at the AF Times employment section. Many defense contractors and/or head hunters will be listed there.

Spend a couple of hours digging through Dice, Americas Job Bank and others.

If you are good and can present yourself, you can expect a few offers waiting for you when you get out.

I have a half dozen headhunter contacts if desired; then show up unannounced on an average of 1-2 per month (unsolicited).

Most are from East coast and CA.

Although I am against any preferential treatment for anyone...
vets, minorities, seniorities, whomever... because I believe the most qualified candidate should always be hired...

I will confirm that PA's Civil Service has veteran preference.

I worked for the state in a temporary position in IT for 3 years. Then the position was changed to a permanent position, and I applied to keep it.
I was denied the permanent position... in favor of lesser qualified individual, but he had to be hired because he was a veteran.
He lasted all of 3 weeks, then was fired because of incompetance.

Thank you all for some of the links. The biggest road block I am finding right now, is, my 4 years of experience isn't quite as deep as a lot of places would like, since a lot of the heavy network engineering was done by contractors on our base.
I have a profile on Monster, but it hasn't turned up a lot yet.
I have a www.clearancejobs.com profile, still not a ton of luck there yet either.

So I am just hoping I might score some real leads, where my clearance level, and military background mean more than raw experience.

Once again thank you all.

So, you work in a tech control type of environment? Working with crypto gear (KGs, KIVs), IDNX's, etc.. etc..???

jlbenedict - Yes. I work in Tech Control. I have worked with some KIVs, and IDNX. Robins has a through station though, and no console. But I was actually the "go to" guy for all of our circuit outages. No on in our shop had training on the IDNX/ADNX outside of tech school, and when we had a major circuit outage for Air Force Space Command, that also the Navy was involved with, and I brought that puppy back up.

I'm a former 3C0 with a clearance. Tons of contractors will hit you up. If you want I can send your resume around my group of friends and they can forward them to some recruiters. Most of us work for Raytheon, Northrup-Grumman, Mantech, GD, BAE, etc. PM me if you are interested.

Edit: As far as hiring vets go, about 75% of the people I work with are ex-military.

He is stationed at Warner Robins ALC in Georgia - about 2.5 hours south of Atlanta on I-75.

I would expect that he realizes that he will have to move - only work in that area is support at the base - he may have already explored those options.

FoBot - Eagle is right. I work at Robins AFB. Warner Robins GA.

Yes I am willing to relocate. City doesn't really matter, as long as it is in the United States, and the pay is what I need to pay my bills. :)

And I have one possible opening at my current base, but I have to wait till January to find out about. I would like something sooner.

It applies in all states for Civil Service since it is federal employment.
