Anyway to tell if NOS was previously hooked up to a car?

Just curious - my parents over the weekend bought a used 94 Toyota Corolla (rather, Geo Prizm) for my little sister.

The engine compartment is rather clean - a lot of new/new looking parts - air intake, fuse box, few other things. (Engine seems like it was steam cleaned) Unfortunately, the car is pre-riced out - has a Type S sticker, spoiler, led washer nozzles, black rims, lame looking grill, clear out front turn signals. It has aftermarket speakers all around + Pioneer MP3 player, the few good things the previous owner actually did to it.

I did notice on the front bumper that the previous poseur, err owner, had put NOS stickers on both sides. (As well as a fvcking MOPAR sticker - I don't understand that) I'm going to guess that it was probably just the guy being a poseur (hence, putting a Mopar sticker on a 'yota) but wanted to know if there were tell tale signs of a previous nitrous oxide system hooked up. (NOS brand, which is why I put NOS in the title, I know the difference :p) It seems obvious there used to be a short ram air intake installed, but that's about the only "performance" variant I can tell that was added.

Pictures!

I would give it a 99.9999% chance that its never had NOS anywhere near it, except for the stickers.

Unfortunately, yes. I was taking the GMAT Saturday morning or else I would have slapped some sense into them.

Carfax on it is clean. The car was obviously repainted, looks like a Maaco job to boot  At this point it's ours and it's my little sister's first car, so she's happy, they're happy. Not what I would have bought for a first car for her, but whatever.

Look for silly-ass cuts in the center console or trunk carpet where the tard would've screwed down the bottle bracket. Also, REMOVE THE MOPAR STICKER!

I agree, It has a better chance of having a Hemi stuffed under the hood.

Also make sure the floor board on the passenger side hasn't fallen out. Check under the passenger side seat for bottles and guages. And check your piston rings. Bette take it to the mad scientist to have him do it.

Check the manufacturers website, as far as I know no one has ever made a kit for the Crayola. Not that you need a kit to put one in but most people wouldn't go through the trouble of modding the injectors themself if there wasn't a kit made for it.

EDIT: There would also probably be an arming switch somewhere under the dash or center console. Look for holes that could fit a small toggle switch.

Just wanted to check, that's all. Thanks for the info JeffCos.

Uploaded Pics. You'll see one that has the faint outline of the NOS + Mopar stickers. Oh and I forgot to mention, the spoiler is an offwhite from the rest of the car.

There's no telling what some chump does to a car. Nitrous is serious stuff, and I'm willing to GUESS that the previous owner didn't touch it. A hack with nitrous doesn't have a car for very long.

I don't know why anyone would do that to a Corolla, but I knew a kid that did run it in his car. It can't be all that uncommon.

Probably the easiest way to tell since it looks like he's replaced the intake is to look in the trunk and see if there are any holes in it. If he was running a setup he had to have the bottle bolted down somewhere, which should always be the trunk. Don't bother inspecting the intake manifold, if the kid had a Mopar sticker on a Yota there's no way could have figured out how to install a wet system. It's likely if anything he was using a dry setup, hence the new intake.

I wouldn't buy a car from a ricer regardless, it's probably been driven hard

I figured he was running a short ram and he lost the original factory intake. But thanks for the tips. (I looked in the trunk - didn't see any bolts before but I can check again)

check the intake for any drilled holes that were sealed back up. If you put nitrous on a near stock car, you almost always have to drill a hole in the intake somewhere to jet fuel/nitrous in.

Unless they just put on a new intake, in which case you're SOL. You might not be able to tell even with a tear down, but in that case there weren't any bad/lasting effects.

I actually knew a guy who had modded corolla, i/e, high stall TC, built wheels/suspension, 75 shot nitrous, some other stuff I've forgotten. I've seen his 1/8th time slips and the car was capable of walking away from stock WRXs. Later he parted it all out, put it back to stock and sold it to some old lady, but he had ran about 300 lbs of nitrous through it at that point.

Nitrous kits are mostly universal, you don't need a specific kit for a car. You just drill a hole in the intake to jet nitrous and fuel through it. You could put nitrous on a lawn mower if you wanted to.
