Anyway to install 2000 Pro on a machine already running XP Pro?

From with-in windows?

I'm trying to setup a dual boot with 2000 and XP.

I can't get 2000 to install from dos using winnt.exe so I thought I would install 98se on my Raid 0 array and then upgrade to 2000 Pro. Alas my 98se disk is too scratched to use. (well I DID finally get 98 to install on a spare drive, but not the raid array, I was going to install onto a small drive I had laying around, then use Maxtor to transfer the install to the Raid 0 array. When 98 started to finish it's install, I got a error and it wouldn't finish)

I want a simple clean OS install on my Raid 0 array for gaming only, and then use my other XP install for everything else.

But I'm having a HELL of a time getting either 98 or 2000 installed to the raid array. :(

When I try installing 2000 from with in XP it says I have a newer OS installed and it won't let me do much of anything.

Any work around that you know of?

start for winnt.exe (IN DOS)
during the start (blue screen) it will say press f6 for raid/scsi Drivers
press f6
when it is ready it will install raid drivers

I tried that.

My storage drive and my other OS drive showes up, but the Raid array doesn't.

After hitting F6 I installed both the fasttrack raid drivers and my ATA 133 drivers but only the drives on the ATA 133 card show as options to install to. :( I also tried putting the raid drivers onto a 2000 pro disk I burned. No love there either.

I think I may have found the problem. I have a BUNCH of devices sharing IRQ 9.

Guess I need to do some configing in the bios and sort some of them out.

I can't figure out enough about your system's physical configuration, and just where you have Windows XP installed, to know what you'll need to do to be able to stick Windows 2000 on that RAID array. Why are you doing that? Wouldn't Windows XP work better for gaming anyway?

At any rate having a bunch of devices on IRQ9 doesn't have anything to do with your problem. That behavior is normal. Your problem, at least the immediate one you are reporting here, is that Windows XP doesn't want you to overwrite its boot files with older ones from Windows 2000 that will fubar the XP install.

Is there a reason you don't want to use XP for gaming? I thought everyone had realized by now that it's as good or better than 2000 for gaming?

It's just that with past experience, windows 2000 has been virtually BOMB PROOF for me.

Of all the OS's I've ran, 2000 over all has had less problems over time.

But with the hassle this has been, maybe I'll just install a fresh copy of XP on the raid anyway. :(
