I downloaded a few wmvs from mtv.com and they were only meant to be streamed, not d/led.

is there anyway to play these videos? When I try, it says "failed to render".

Do you mean play or save these videos ? Failed to render when you play it online or when you're playing your saved file ?

i d/led the file from mtv.com using wm recorder. it d/ls the file even though the link is hidden and the source code unviewable.

after i d/l the file, it says failed to render the file when i try to play it. under file properties, it says it is licensed protected.

Do you use Media Player Classic? Try using Windows Media Player 9/10 instead as it is the only player that can play those types of files (with a couple rare exceptions like Zoom Player w/ DRM support).
