I can understand the problem. Great toes are grafted on to make new thumbs. Car and m/c racers have had this gone. Maybe investigate having one of your toe nails donated as a graft to replace that finger nail?
Detroit Diesel starter was greasy and slipped, mashed left pinky=11 stitches + 2yrs to get full use. I still can't close it fast enough to catch little items in my left hand.
Finger nails support the tips of hard working fingers. A fellow mechanic gave me this tip.
Anytime a nail is damaged, drilled black or torn nail. He recommended having a acrylic
nail applied at a salon. Keep it filled or replaced as needed til the new nail grows out.
It works and the new nail is not all lumpily.......
