I can understand the problem. Great toes are grafted on to make new thumbs. Car and m/c racers have had this gone. Maybe investigate having one of your toe nails donated as a graft to replace that finger nail?

Detroit Diesel starter was greasy and slipped, mashed left pinky=11 stitches + 2yrs to get full use. I still can't close it fast enough to catch little items in my left hand.

Finger nails support the tips of hard working fingers. A fellow mechanic gave me this tip.
Anytime a nail is damaged, drilled black or torn nail. He recommended having a acrylic
nail applied at a salon. Keep it filled or replaced as needed til the new nail grows out.
It works and the new nail is not all lumpily.......

To answer the "why bother to get it fixed" question ;

I am currently dating and looking for a wife, I want to put up my best appearances.

Couldn't they take the the nail or the whole end of a toe and put it there?

Where are they going to get a whole nail from ?

A toe ? !!!!!

Read my previous post ;)

He was fired and I never saw him again, granted I collected a lot of insurance money, but in my opinion, it was not worth it because I lost the feeling in my finger tip.

First off, you cannot wear gloves when repairing automobiles, second, a glove would not have saved my finger unless it was made out of chainmail.

Well! Then have all ten done a the salon in China Silk. Unlike acrylic it breaths and looks natural. Just don't use colored nail polish..Good luck on your new adventure...:)

Yes, look into donating a toe nail to your finger......

AAAACCCCCKKKK !!!!!

If this is the only option, I will probably have the nail yanked, let it heal then apply a fake one.
My feet are ugly enough !!! ;):)

Ouchie.

Unfortunately, I agree with the surgeons. I don't think much can be done.

Try pampering that nail bed. Maybe that'd help.

It needs a woman's touch ;)

May I ask, what do I pamper it with ?

Remember that I am an man and know next to nothing about these issues.

I always have hated them, all car salesman are scumbags and slimeballs, not one of them can ever tell the truth ;)

Roger before your night out, just suck it up and go to a good nail salon. Those gals that work there just love it when a "manley" man comes in for work. Been there done it....;)

I'll have to go do this in a nieghboring town, if any of my friends see me in a nail salon, I will NEVER hear the end of it.

You only get one chance at a first impression. You will feel strange looking at your own fingers if you get it done. But the comfort you feel as you take her hand in yours for the first time will be worth the risk. Or so I believe. Take the plunge, tell us how it went.
:)

EDIT: There are probably many professional men at ATOT that have their nails done on a regular basis. I only do it on rare occasions and never have I regretted it.

I had my knuckle cut off in a separate incident with an automobile, that's what grew back, one giant callous.

My other hand is much worse, I am not going to be posting pics of that stump.

Ouch, at least your's can be hidden by a sock and shoe, do you have trouble walking at all ?

Roger, didn't Ross give you the manual to your camera? ;)

What is the model number? I'll investigate..

I'd imagine that in macro mode(usually a little flower), you should be able to focus from ~6" - 8"...
