Well, you could start by drinking all of your beer warm, and eating extremely bland food...

BTW, if you really want to get the ladies, you might try taking a minute or two to leave ATOT and meet people IN THE FLESH. Or you could watch lots of Sean Connery movies, "cuz chicks dig a Scottish accent" a lot more than the British accent.

First off, warm beer sounds like a really unpleasant idea - we drink it slightly cool so as to maintain the flavour. Ice cold beer totally masks the flavour, which I guess is why you have to serve yours like that. Regarding bland food, well yes, I'm sorry to say that we do have McDonalds over here, but they're struggling.

Second, how long will take for Americans to fully understand the geography of the rest of the world - Great Britain consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BRITISH ACCENT!!!!!!! There are various English accents, including Cockney, Brummie, Scouse, West Country, Norfolk etc.... There are variants of Scottish accents, probably Welsh also, although it's hard to tell with a mouthful of wool, and one basic Northern Irish accent with some variants.

Christ, this started off as a friendly debate and mock-p|sstaking, don't start making it all serious and taking the fun out of it. Why do some people have to get all uppity...?

Yeah he must be a Scouse........😛

Their accents are a direct result of poor dental hygiene. Stop brushing your teeth and never go to the dentist and you'd be sounding like Keith Richards in no time!

I can't stand British accents.

I can't stand drawling southern American accents, but I don't bitch about them

But southern women are hot!
Until they hit 30 then they balloon up like Delta Burke

Chicks dig British accent here in America. No matter how ugly you are.

British accent = babes

go to australia. the babes there like american accents, or so ive heard.

I didn't think anyone liked American accents apart from Americans... 😛

Anyway I know about three Australians form work, and theyve told me many times in the past that Australians aren't too keen on Americans, theyve a lot more in common with us Brits. In fact, even though I personally like Amercans, I reckon as a nation they must be just about the most unpopular in the world.

You know, I laugh when I hear this because the US is, by far, the most popular nation for emigrants from all nations... including the UK and Australia. I wonder how that is since we're so unpopular?

And don't the Aussies have a funny code word for Brits? "Bruce?"

"Stroke gives woman British asscent"

Damn, V00DOO, you beat me to it! 🙁 I saw her on Maury Povich's show on Tuesday. 😀 She woke up from her coma speaking with that accent. I'm like, if that's the only side effect, I would be glad! Maury said it was a rare disorder and only 20 (or 21?) people in the world had it. Ah, maybe she had a previous life, and she's a reincarnation! :Q 😛

The British accent could be annoying or mesmerising. It depends upon which you hear. Whenever Tony Blair speaks, I want to puke . . . I don't like his accent, or maybe it's just lisping. Yes, technically, there's no such thing as "British accent", just as there isn't such thing as "American accent". However, let's be real here. . . .

By British accent, I mean the RP (Received Pronunciation; aka BBC accent). The RP is the mesmerising accent, whilst many of the native accents are the annoying ones. I love the RP and do speak that way sometimes . . . but often I just mix it up. It turns me on when a guy has that accent. 😱 Ironically, I don't dig British guys, but I love the accent. 😀

Konichiwa, I'm afraid you're confusing Aussie accent with British accent. What you posted there is Aussie accent. They speak through their noses. I think I would have to agree with my professor that Southern accent and Aussie accent are identical. 😛

Accent is, in essence, pronunciation. So if you're serious, Lager, and if you want to learn the RP (Received Pronunciation; aka BBC accent), there are different ways to accomplish it. Here are my suggestions: 1) Take a training course, where you're taught to speak that way (of course this involves money). 2) If you're lucky to find a free course on the 'net, that would work too. 3) Listen to the BBC World Service frequently, and practise pronunciations. 4) Study the phonetics using dictionaries as your reference. The Cambridge Dictionary is offered on the 'net for free, with phonetic symbols (site is slow but preferred); check the "show phonetics" box. There's also the Oxford English Dictionary; British vs. American; and of course Longman.

Hope that helps! Personally, I would combine three and four if I couldn't get the first option. Take note of simple words such as "can't", "not", "daughter", "murder", "master", "privacy", "schedule", etc. There aren't much phonetic symbols to learn in the British pronunciation.

P.S.: Funny, my sis could imitate almost all accents, but she had trouble with the British accent. She's improved now. I think it's one of the the hardest accents for people to mimic.
