Anything i should know about High School Football?

i used to (still kinda do, but my track season was cancelled this year) run track, but i decided to try out football. my school currently needs fast runners, and a lot of my classmates and coaches were telling me to try out football. soooo, i joined football. and since it's late feb, football season hasn't started, and it won't start till next year. i'm just wondering what i should expect. i'm about a 5 6" guy that has a runner's build. i'm not buff by any means, i just get along very well with track.

You're built like a runner, & playing football? I have a friend who's a runner, he's an inch shorter than me & weighs 50 lbs less than me. I'd spend the next however long you have bodybuilding if you don't want to get smeared.

Oh, and invest in some soap-on-a-rope, or WTF it's called... The locker rooms might be a dangerous place.

Go for it if you're really fast. But you'd better get buff cause at 5'6" you're gonna get hurt often if your body isn't physically ready to play football. Why did your track season get cancelled?

i'd say the school is a fairly normal sized school. i forgot how many there were, it was in the couple thousands. i'm not too worried about working out in the summer, track meets are in the spring-summer time, and they're killer.

ahh viper, i see you don't know of any short distant sprinters aye? those people are some of the strongers motherfuggers i've seen anywhere. look at maurice green, he's pure muscle. johnson as well. plus, i've been told that i would be the running back, so i think all the linemen should take care of MOST of the large defensive doods.

it was cancelled since our old coach didn't come back. he wanted to teach at the school AND coach track, but they didnt have an open teaching slot. for the pass few months, the school was looking for a new coach, but they didnt come up with anyone.

Yuckysgf...

Exactly what it sounds like. A bar of soap with a loop of rope through it. Most useful for bathing in rapidly moving water, & avoiding anal violation in prisons & locker rooms.

Ohhoh boy, that's exactly what us 6 1" 265 lb. D-linemen love to hear. It makes the bone-shattering crunch of a backside tackle breaking through the line and meeting a guy 100 pounds lighter then him head on that much more enjoyable.

Next year is my senior year and man oh man am I gonna be taking advantage of it. As everyone else said, HIT THE WEIGHT ROOM and hit it HARD. The life of a running back is 10x as hard as that of even an offensive lineman. Those guys are all 200+ and can shrug off a Def. tackle like nothing. Believe me though, if your frame isn't built for football you're gonna really really feel those collisions. Hit the weight room. Learn the difference between being hurt and being injured. Hit the weight room. Remember to keep your head in the ballgame even when you've got a crosshair over your jersey. Hit the weight room. Learn self-discipline.. doesn't matter if the coach is really right or wrong, he's right. Oh yeah, and did I mention you absolutely have to hit the weight room if you wanna stand a chance of surviving?

You DEFINITELY should hit the weights ... and depending on your weight now, you should bulk up (a lot of it muscle mass). If not, you'll be made into mince meat by those mean muthafugga linesmen that wanna eat you for breakfast 😉.

Viper hit the nail on the head, a worthwhile investment to say the least. :Q:Q:Q:Q

Definately hit the weights. My senior year I played OLB at 5'6 (and a half!!) and 140 lbs. I wasn't that fast and it took my half the year to see the field during a varsity game (I didn't play my junior year so it set me back some) but at that size get your bench press and squat lifts as high as you can...trust me!!!

SIZE DOESN'T MATTER. (Unless your girlfriend says it does by that's for another thread...). Coaches like aggressiveness and even at running back you should be able to still give a good pop and make someone pay for trying to tackle you...

my other friend who was the JV running back told me that i would have about 11 guys after my ass. i think that's enough inspiration to get me into the weight room.
