My friend had a new '07 F-150, and told me that it kept shifting into four wheel drive mode at random after about 18 months. I don't see anything on Google about it, but I'm not sure what I'd be looking for. Something to check?
If it's shifting into 4 wheel drive, he's either got a short in the switch, a problem in the wiring harness or a problem in the ecm itself.
I've heard of anti-lock breaking issues disabling 4 wheel drive (that's common across all manufacturers) but never what you're mentioning. Sounds pretty doggone rare actually. The switch and wiring harness should be easy to check - just change it into 2 wheel drive and disconnect the switch, etc. Process of elimination. Any good mechanic should be able to do it.
There are no TSB's relating to that either that I can find.
