Im pretty darn sure its the code red 1 and 2 that are hitting this area so badly and my cable modem is "lit up like a christmas tree" . Now I havent been keeping up with this , so what should I do?

1) Get a piece of cardboard.
2) Get some tape.
3) Tape the cardboard OVER the light.
4) Problem solved!

Those are good suggestions, but we want TimidOCer here at AnandTech.

With my method, you won't see any lights, therefore you will not have any problem.

'If you can't see it, it's not there.'

Interesting theories.... Well thanks all for the stupid awnsers for a stupid question *sorry* I havent kept up with this friggin code red crap.. 🙁 Anywho thanks I put cardboard on it 😉 😉

and incase you people didnt catch the drift in my first post I meant what can I do about the virus affecting me so much

download zonealarm firewall.. stopped well over 300 attempts by code red so far.. i dunno if it will stop the blinking though

Norton's Firewall is good....shut-up...hey, it was free (for me) and I like it better the ZoneAlarm's Free version...

Heh. I got a copy of Norton, free, legally, and STILL feel cheated. But anyway...

Code Red's going to hit your modem no matter what. A firewall will just drop the connection as it comes in. -shrug- Not much that can be done about it.

Rendus, who's currently at 1632 Code Red attempts.

Stop staring at it and you won't have a problem. My cable modem is getting hit by Code Red too, but I haven't noticed any drop in performance.

Man I'm having a bit hit in performance. And it doesn't help that the performance in my area is usually garbage anyway.

I'm using Rogers@HOME in Scarborough, Ontario. Anyone here from Scarborough should know how slow it is. The Code Red attacks are hitting my linux box, which is a proxy/firewall for my home network.

Buy a real, hardware firewall.

Or save yourself the $100 and just put tape over the damn light.

you can unhook the led in the modem, but the best way is to look through your firewall log and email them infected IPs, and tell them to fix their damned computers.
