ah i love my net connection, we live in a townhouse/condo, internet is supplied by them....

it's symetrical up and down....speeds range from 250KB/s to 650KB/s.... and for 30 bucks a month flat rate....

I had a torrent DLing at around 100k when I went to bed last night, then one of those retarded windows updates that automagically reboots your computer hit sometime in the night. I lost my good peers, or people stopped seeding, or something- but it was supposed to be done at 8AM and now it has 2.5 days left, downloading at <10k. WTF.

At least Verizon DSL doesn't cap. Cable (OOL for me) capped even when I tried adhering to their download rules 3 separate times. I gave them the long version of "F U" and went to dsl. It sucked going to overall slower speeds permanently but at least I don't have to deal with lies and download without worry. Now I have FIOS and download 5 tv shows at once in under an hour. Verizon FTW.

oldsmoboat: How deep in the woods do you live?
rh71: Verizon FTW indeed. Too bad there is no FIOS here (or even Verizon DSL) because I live in AT&T turf. But then again only use I can see out of FIOS is hosting a couple game servers. I don't do P2P that much, and when I do, my 4.8 mbit is more than enough...

What's your upload at? If you cap your upload at around 20kps you wont notice any siginificant slowing of the net. Not sure about the downloading, i can get pretty high rates depending on the torrent. Did you check if your designated port is open? I use comcast as well.

Well...not so bad for what's advertised for me. 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps download (Sprint EVDO).
Consider yourself lucky. AT&T doesn't have DSL in my area, Verizon wants $65/mo for both phone+DSL, and the cable guy won't come and install internet only unless I pick up the TV+internet package which comes to be $70/mo + tax.

Which album is it BTW?

thanks.
it's a trance mix cd by some non-commercial DJs. Doubt most know of them but it's "GT vs Project C - Voices of Spring 2008"

why dont you just download it off their website generationtrance.com

Comcast and Cox are blocking the majority of P2P traffic

You need to correct that. There is no BLOCKING going on. If people understood network management traffic management practices you mark the offending abuse traffic to be discarded first in times of congestion. Since P2P is the offending traffic it is going to get marked and if a decision on what to drop has to be made then P2P is the first to get dropped. This is nothing more than acceptable network management.

I had an 8Mbit at where I live for college. I usually get a music CD (~120MB for mp3s) in about 5 minutes. I'm not sure who my provider is there. Now that I'm home for the summer, we have an 8Mbit with Suddenlink but I'm lucky to get faster than 3 kB/s.

meh, start the download and do something else. That's how we do it on satellite.

yea but it pisses me off that im paying for high speed internet and getting DSL like speeds when it really matters

Don't bash on DSL...I have 6mbit package and getting like 500-600 kb/s down off a good server.

DSL sucks balls! Great, you get 6megs. You know the reason you get 6megs? Because you're place is probably on the lawn of the CO. The other people further away are getting slower and slower speeds. I'm down to 1.2megs. :| DSL sucks balls! The great things about cable and fiber is if they can lay a line to your home, you'll most likely (>90% of the time) get the highest speed available. Unfortunately come sh!tty companies like Comcast do sh!t like this. And others like Charter cable are looking to spy on your surfing habits. :|

Whoa there, someone is a little bitter. I have Verizon DSL at home and it's great. I'm in a somewhat rural area and nowhere near the CO and I get really good speeds.

Then you're close to an RT (Remote Terminal). The further you go out from either of those, the sh!ttier your speed gets. I'm not close to the CO and I don't have an RT close, so that's why I'm getting a sh!tty 1.2m connection. :| Move out a little further and I'm sure your opinion of DSL will change.

Comcast 8Mb package according to my bill......

11:50 on a Sunday night in a college town on summer break.....this is about the best it has ever been.....nothing running in the backround...not even thunderbird....I'd like half of my month's bill back really....the sad thing is that they did give me a little more bandwidth moving from the 6Mb package to the 8....used to cap out at under 2Mb....the VERY instant DSL is available I'm jumping ship

OP, if BitTorrent is really important to you, consider switching ISPs or subscribing to a VPN service.

bellsouth/dsl 1.5mb - amazingly, it looks like I'm getting what I'm paying for...
rural install in 2007 - maybe newer dslam.
