Anything I Can Do About Bad Broadband Service? *rant*

As the title states, is there anything I can do about a bad broadband service? As you all know Cox@Home in Orange County is simply a piece of sh1t that can't get any worse. Not only are there the constant downtimes but when it is actually up for once it's essentially unusable. Pinging their own homepage gets me 5000+ms & pinging out. Obviously you can tell their overselling and with too many hops, the speed is unbearable. Now, I dont' care that much for speed as long as I can do my usual web surfing and online gaming, but a 14.4 modem goes faster than their service. Uplaoding files is even worse, as it usually average at abouit 6kb/sec. Am I just SOL and have to put up with this sh1t? Is there nothing to force a bad cable broadband company to shape up its operations?! Any of you know a decent broadband service in the Irvine area?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but I just need to rant. :|

Sorry to tell you, but there's nothing you can do. You can call about DSL service, but other than canceling your service with cox@home you have no options.

i'm pretty sure speakeasy.net does dsl in irvine, just be prepared to pay the price ^_^

Gr1mL0cK, just keep calling their customer service at different times and log each call you make and the "response" they give you. Then if you are under a "contract," yopu should be able to get out of it and find a faster broadband provider in your area. You could also use this log to write to the cable company and forward a copy of it to the BBB, make sure that Cox@home is aware of the issue, maybe they'll do something to help your stuation out. Just some ideas, hope it helps.

Exactly. If its actually worse than dial-up, go back to dial-up.

since you are getting such slow speeds why dont you cancel and get a dial-up and save a few bucks.

Question, for Zim Hosein what is the BBB going to do? they have no power, no authority, the BBB is a private company not a government agency.

Because I'm not the only one using the service, and need to split it among other people. Cox@Home is the only broadband service I know of in the area, and hence I asked if people knew of any other.

Whats up w/ people trying to smart@sses about this? It's a just a damn question.

No, we need LESS regulation so we can have more competition. Ma Bell is a perfect example of government regulation at work.
