Thanks for all of the replies.

I am trying the paper under the battery with hopes it works.

I wasn't aware of Samsung's builds not lasting. It is something to consider if having to look for another. Perhaps I should consider going to Walmart for a prepaid and putting one on my plan (I have another year left on contract) if this one dies until I decide what to do.

In any case, I suppose I should consider other options just in case.

Dari is a known Samsung hater. I haven't seen any meaningful difference between Samsung and the other big brands.

Samsung has a primary build material choice(plastic) that isn't everyone's favorite. Their actual build quality other than that and device longevity is very good.

I had a rebooting problem. Removed the SD card and it went away.....

This. I bought a brand new SanDisk 16Gb card. It was working fine for the last 6 months then all of the sudden my phone started rebooting last week. I was just about ready to chuck my phone in the pond until I did some research and someone suggested removing the SD card.

Their build quality is not good and neither is longevity. Look at the reviews of the GS3 and Galaxy Note tablets...

I don't like their business practices and OLED screens. Other than that, they give you a lot of hardware for the money, which is a good thing since they are a hardware company. But you get shoddy quality, which is something I hate.

Have you tried claiming Samsung USA Warranty?

I had a Captivate Glide (great form factor, btw), and at about 11 months, started rebooting every 5 minutes. AT&T initially said they'd get me a refurb one, but later on changed their mind and wanted $150 to exchange for it. F-that!

Contacted Samsung USA (through the site). Went through all the steps, and they even gave me a prepaid shipping label. Got a brand new (refurb? doesn't matter, works!) phone back after about 2 weeks. Pretty happy with them :)

Also RMA'd a Samsung BT headset. Was an older model, they replaced it with a brand new newer model :)

Yah, he's so full of crap. My son is still rocking his sgs1 after 3 years without a case and I still have my sgs2 going on 2 years without a case and my sgs3 is without a case as well. Not one issue ever.

I will definitely give Samsung a call. They'll probably tell me that I'm out of warranty (expired late Nov), but in all honesty, the second time I called AT&T about the problem, they should have replaced the phone. Maybe that argument will hold water w/them, especially since I own other Samsung products.

The shut-down occurred again twice since doing the factory reset. It very well could be the battery, but something in the phone is causing the problem. I do have the paper slid into the bottom of the phone.

Oh well.

Thanks for the discussion. Guess I should consider my options if Samsung tells me to take a hike, too.

all you morons saying how the international galaxy 2 is an obsolete phone is missing a good reason to get one with att. to the OP, make sure you arent using 3rd party chargers. it made my phone's battery die quickly and physically bloated the battery. i got a new oem samsung b attery, and did a factory reset, and everything is working like new.

Evident,

Where did you purchase your battery? I can't help but wonder what's in the phone that's making these batteries die.

My charger came w/the phone, so I'm guessing it should be the orig. I watched them open the box, but hey, anything's possible.

I got my battery on amazon.com but made sure it was sold by amazon and was the original OEM sammy battery.

I just noticed that you have an ATT galaxy s2 (i777), not the international GT-I9100. they are a little bit different, but you can also get them on amazon it seems
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EB-L1A...H-I777+battery

you could sell your i777 and get a i9100 and break even potentially.

I use a GS2 skyrocket and have no issues with this phone at all, hell I have never had a issue with any samsung phone I have owned. THE GS2 is still a very capable phone. Dual core 4.5inch screen Dari quit being a hater k

There aren't many things an S2 can't still do. Most apps still work exceptionally well. 1.5Ghz Dual Core, 4.5 inch screen and 1gb of RAM still has plenty of life left in it. The only area I can see it falling behind in anytime soon is gaming. And even then, that's just high end games. The casual mainstream games will still run fine for quite a while longer.

Not trying to hate. Just don't see the point in paying a lot of money for an old phone. Better to get a new midrange phone that (while looking the same specs-wise, would have newer components). Add the fact that OLED screens aren't known for their longevity, fixing it or getting a used one is just asking for trouble.

Again, you keep going yet you have yet to give us an example of a phone thats better than a GS2 for around $100.
Oh, its because you can't.
The international GS2 or the ATT Exynos version is still a great phone.
Although the soc is older, it still run everything pretty damm good because of the lower resolution.
I have both the GS2 and GS3 at one point and I would argue that the GS2 run games better.
For example, subway surfer on the GS3 is a stuttering fuck. It runs better on the GS2.

You can find many used phones on CL for $100. OP said ATT was asking $200 for a refurb. Ridiculous.

Yet again examples? I can pull something out of my ass but doesn't make it true. Just because you may have occasional spotted something better for 100 or less doesn't change the fact tht is not the norm...you are spreading bs. The truth is a used gs2 or equivalent is much higher

It may not be the norm but it does exist. Not sure why you keep harping on about a used GSII when I'm saying it's not worth the price. OP obviously does not change his phone like many of you here do. He wants something that'll last. Therefore, it's in his interest to get something new rather than taking the risk of buying a used phone, especially one that has an OLED screen.

The point is you are saying it isn't worth it be the market clearly says otherwise. Your opinion is just that...an opinion yet you seem to project it as fact

Well, the OP is here asking for the opinions of others, maybe suggestions. I provide mine and you can do the same. I pointed out that, considering that a midrange phone has better specs than his old GSII, buying a used one isn't worth it. This is doubly so considering 1) he won't know what he's getting and 2) OLED screens are not known for their longevity.

Fact is, the vast majority of people buying and selling these phones don't understand them. OP should take that to heart. I also pointed out that Samsung is selling a new GSII phone so if he really likes that series, he can buy a brand new one from Samsung.

So, there you go. These are my opinions. This is coming from someone who doesn't buy anything used and does his homework before purchasing anything. This can be for months or years when it comes to expensive items. Obviously I value the opinions and experience of others or else I wouldn't take so long when it comes to making a decision.
