Anyonw else unplug their landline for the duration?

Plugged it back in now that the silly seson is over. BTW, this really wasn't a thread about the overall virtues of landlines.
 
Haven't had a land line since 2004. Only reason I had it then was because TiVo required it for downloading updates.

Switched the house phone to GV, which is what I use when signing up for anything. That way when the fun robocalls come in, it just logs it digitally :thumbsup:
 
I have an android cellphone. I created a contact in my gmail account called "CALL BOT". Anytime I get a number I don't recognize, I ignore it. If they don't leave a voicemail, I add that number to the call bot as an additional number....

I have all set to automatically go to voicemail from "CALL BOT". I typically add a few numbers a month and get some repeat offenders from companies I've done business with in the past trying to cold call me. I think it has like 60+ numbers in it now...
 
Signed to the no marketer type list, haven't gotten any type of these calls since a neilson radio rating call about 4 years ago.
 
For those of you with no land line, what phone number do you give out when you fill a form, such as for a bank. Or for a credit card? I want to cut the cord, but then don't want the calls to end up going to my cell phone.

I just give my cell phone. Can't remember the last time any of the eight banks or so I have an account with have called me. Sometimes I get a text from the Chase fraud department but maybe once a year

Cell phone.

I've literally never gotten an unsolicited call that wasn't fraud protection.
 
Kids' school has the home line as the primary. Central station alarm monitoring needs it too. While that's easy to circumvent for a thief, it is also beneficial because: having a landline is better than just a cellphone signal for emergencies around here (9/11 and the NorthEast power outage come to mind).

The triple play FIOS package was a better value getting all 3 services instead of just 2 without the phone anyway.

Come to think of it I have not gotten any political calls in a long time. I think everybody is scared to do it after the robocall scandal.
 
The cut phone cable has dangled for many years from the pole out back blowing around in the wind.

Talking on a cell phone isn't much better than a CB radio so I'm considering hooking the land line back up so I can have a normal conversation with the pizza man.
 
I have Rj45 land line on a couple PCs and my NAS and my Server. I have no Rj11 land lines though, (have not since maybe 1998 or so.)

I haven't seen a need for a landline in many years. Coincidentally, I was just up on the roof trying to figure out how to accidentally cut that phone line. One less mess of wires attached to the house would be nice.
 
If I had the money and could afford it, I'd reinstall a land line. There's no question that the connection quality is better than anything on a cell phone. I got rid of mine when what I thought should be a $20/month luxury became $25 a month, then $30 a month after all the taxes and fees. It would be interesting to know what it costs a decade later.

I have established several Google Voice accounts which correspond to my Inboxes for various purposes. I use my Google Voice "home" number.

Damn, google voice. Never give out the real number. Google voice also transcribes voicemails to txt/email so you don't even have to listen to people's long rambling messages, and if you ever get hassled you can just close out the number and get a new one. And it's free. Love it!
