my school implemented a really cool system for filtering spam e-mail. it automatically scans all e-mails, and assigns a probability of spamij to each message. if the probability > .5, then the e-mail is labled as [PMX: ###] where each # stands for a 10% increase in the likelihood that the e-mail is spam. from there, individual users can just set up their own filters in outlook to delete the messages automatically, move them to a specific folder, etc. personally i move anything between 50-80% to a specific folder and auto delete anything greater than 80%. just wondering if anyone else has tried this. it's worked great for me

here's the criteria for assigning spam probabililty, if anyone is interested.

At the university of washington they have a similiar thing except you can choose to have it filter server side so you can goto any computer and not setup the filters on each individual machine or when you check your mail via the web.

Btw I have my setup at 15 or higher probability and still get spam.

yah, they have the same thing here. i think what you're referring to is IMAP, and it's just a way of setting up e-mail that's suited best for individuals that use several different computers and use webmail.
