Ok I have just got an intel CPU for the first time, Its a 2.4c, however my question is this.. Do you use thermal paste with intel's stock HSF? On AMD it clearly states to use thermal paste, however in The intel book it says nothing, it does have a black square on the bottom do I remove this and use paste or leave it and just pop it on?

That black square is the thermal pad... apparently some P4s come with those. Mine came w/ paste. Either use paste or the pad.

That black square is probably stock thermal compound...usually a hard gummy sort of stuff. You don't need any paste or anything if you leave that on and use it.

It's the same thing as the grey\pink AMD pads. It's been posted many times.

You can use the installed thermal pad, but if you have some good thermal paste already then you can clean the pad off and use the thermal paste instead. But it's not neccessary to do so.
