Anyone work with radiation?

2 penises = 2 much radiation.

But seriously--it all depends on the specific isotope involved, distance from source, and time of exposure/time of decay.

I do, and would be happy to answer any questions you have when I get off work.

All of the instruments we use to quantify it in real time measure in rem/hr rates. There is a different detector for Beta, Alpha or Gamma. The resulting rates can be computed into effective dose with some basic math if you know the areas of exposure.

More accurate readings are not real time and measured with Thermo luminescent dosimeters. Read every few weeks. These measure only beta and gamma. Alpha requires the ol' bio-assay. If you are in a hot zone one would more often than not have a real time cumulative badge.

A big thank you to Mark R, Xecuter and Daedalus685.

Didn't want to drop a dime on my employer if I didn't need to.

We have no storage where I am working right now. So, they stored 20 radiological meters with their Uranimun 238 test disks in my cube. Two days in a row I got stomach cramps and was wondering if it was the meters/disks. It appears that it isn't. I am just sick of work.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled neffing.

BTW, stuff like this is what makes this community great.

I work in an OR, so lots of xrays. I try and stay at least 6 feet away from the machine when on and cover me twig and berries with lead. Actually covering the neck is more important.

Been messing around with some smoke detectors, that's as close as I've gotten. No, I did not crack open the americum chamber yet. 😛 For what I'm doing I'm more interested in the piezo part of the circuit.

I don't think there's enough substance in one to be harmful anyway. Start buying crates full on the other hand... lol
