Don't hold your breath. The job was already promised to someone's brothers cousin

New administration, new attitude. This has been the case for a long time here, even more so than other places. But the new mayoral administration has really taken steps to combat cronyism, so I do believe that I have a shot.

Aside from that, my last name is recognizable here as several local politicians have/had it, and I already had to deal with one of the people that interviewed me on another matter a few weeks before we sat down. He kept mentioning to the other interviewer how I had sent him a thank you e-mail for that this is the guy that sent me that thank you e-mail, etc.

So it does seem like I have a few things going for me.

That, and I got a lot of smiles and "exactly"s from the woman who interviewed me, and when the gentleman, at the end, asked me what I liked to do in my personal time, and I said I liked to fish, he got giddy as a schoolboy. Says he can never catch any. I showed him a musky I caught a few weeks ago and he thought it was awesome.

So it seems like I made a connection at the interview.

I'm still extremely hopeful.

It sounds like you've made an impression. I've been working at the County level in a few different positions and they've all been pretty much the same. This latest round of interviews was more difficult due to the sheer number of applicants. Out of 150, I was the one they chose to ultimately get the position. I believe it took about 1-2 wks to hear back from them after the 1st interview. Then I was scheduled for a 2nd interview to meet with the Department Dir. and management staff (the 1st interview was a rep from the dept. and a few other unknowns). After the 2nd, about a week later they had me come in to meet a 3rd time, and this is where they made their offer, in writing and verbally. All in all, it was at least 1 month from start to finish. Good luck!

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I do not believe they plan on conducting second interviews, but I could be wrong. I met with the Assistant Director, and the Chief of Operations. I'd be reporting to the Assistant Director (the guy that was so impressed with the fish).

I'm so in the dark about the process. Policy states that once a candidate is selected, they're mailed a conditional offer packet which includes a conditional offer of employment and three background check release forms. They had me sign all the release forms that day as well as took a copy of my DL and my SS card. I know they havent run anyone's background yet, including mine.

Here's the tricky part - City Ordinance states that they may NOT run the background checks without that conditional offer. So, policy might be bent a bit, but I highly doubt they'd break an actual ordinance. So I am (perhaps foolishly) hoping that because they had me sign those forms they are really serious about me. I think more realistically, however, that they had all interviewees sign them even though it isnt policy. Analyzing it isnt going to help one bit, I know, but this waiting is killing me.

One shot deal, I'd retire from this one. Ugh.
