Just wondering their typical salary range for say a mid-level Java/J2EE developer. Are they competitive..I've heard they like to lowball?

 
Hmm, seems like a lot of people would like to know. We could split the cost of TheVault.com membership? (Around $40 bux for 6 months)

You mean Senior engineer with 5-8 years of real work experience?

I work at GD. I don't know all of your quals, but somewhere in the $50K-$75K range. Don't ingore beenfits though! Private companies will pay more, but have no pension, co-pay for health insurance is higher, etc.
 
depends where you are, here in dc everything is inflated bc much of the work requires security clearance

they do pay their people competitively, but i have seen a tendency for their offers and raises to be a little below market since the prevailing attitude is that the other benefits like pension, job security and even the name make up for it. i suppose they do have a point though, as many people do take the jobs for slightly less money due to those factors - especially older folks with kids and stuff.

many of my peers have recently left, or plan to leave, but not because of anything to do with the company. lmco is just a little lagged behind market value and people are getting offers from other companies big enough to make them jump ship.

on the bright side, this wont really affect you so much as you are already experienced (over that entry-level hump) and lmco will probably make a competitive offer. this is mostly based on DC metro area lmco, it can differ GREATLY btw the different areas and business units.
 
Ok, say I have a clearance (won't mention which level), plus work in DC. Does 80k sound about right? Based on some current offers + speaking with people in the industry, thats what I make my market value to be...

The choices for jobs are not just Lockheed or Private. There are public (and private) companies out there that have better/more benefits than Lockheed.
 
someone i know with no work experience and only a bachelors degree and a TS SCI FSP just accepted a competing offer (very small company) for 90k, with guaranteed 10k raise in 12mo.

your value differs depending on the clearance

generally speaking, for ENTRY level (<2 yrs exp, no masters), with a non-DoD TS clearance they can get 65-75, with a masters add about 10k. this is with big companies like BAE, Raytheon, Northrup, lmco etc. if you go smaller you will get a bigger cut, but probably not as good benefits.

80 seems low unless it is a dod clearance, then it sounds about right
 
Mmm if you were talking airplane engineers, I would know... They pay more than Boeing that's for sure...

Boeing pays my dad now $70k for salary
Lockheed Martin paid my dad $87k for salary

Security is also pretty tight.
