Anyone work a entry level job and actually like it?

Just curious if anyone here works an entry level job a college-bound HSer can get, and actually enjoy it.

I'm currently working in a little food place, and I'm sick of the place. Co-workers are incompetent, and customers are even worse. I've worked there a year and a half, and now that I'm about through High school, I'm ready to move on.

I'm pretty much looking for anything except food service.

I have ALOT of experience on a cash register, I have management experience (I am a supervisor/shiftleader at my current store), able to work confidently with alot of money, able to do daily cash reports, excellent customer service, food safety certified (but i'm not working with food again), fluent in English (only very little spanish), loyal, always on time (if not, i'll call and let them know), and rarely ever miss/call off work.

So, if the job needs those skills, I am ready for it. So, does any ATOTers have a job you think I may enjoy that a youngin' like me could get? Even though retail is fine, though I would honestly perfer not to work with people, but if you still enjoy the job, please list it 🙂.

Try a job at Home Depot or Lowes (insert type of store near you) . As long as you are 18, they will hire you (if they have open positions). My friend worked there, they pay alright, and he didnt mind the job too much. He worked register and did a few other things.
 
Really just depends on where you live. The likeliness of you finding a job you like in your area is pretty slim unless you live in a large(er) community. Just look and see whats available and see if there is anything open that would be good for your qualifications.
 
i suggest going to community college and getting an associates degree. Nowadays, you really need some sort of education...seriously.

In my younger years (not *that* long ago) I had quite a few various jobs, the one I enjoyed the most, by far, was delivery. Retail sucks.
 
Try a data entry job...that's where I started. You get to chill on the computer all day...don't have to deal with customers...typing is really easy for all of us young people...plus it pays more than pretty much any retail or food service job (9-11 hr typically).

It's where I started out and now I'm an Assistant Manager at a Marriott call center...pretty sweet gig.

Wow! I'm looking up Data Entry, and alot of these seem to be pretty nice and easy jobs.

"Minimum of 30wpm", I can easily type at least 80wpm over long term, and up to 125wpm in a burst (I've done 141 in a burst ONCE 😉).

I need some 10 keypad experience though, something I never use. Gotta start practicing that.

and double congrats on staying away from Computer jobs, they are the suck.
 
Try retail such as Best Buy, Comp USA, Target, Frys, etc. Also try call centers/tech support. They're easy to land entry level positions that pay well too.

Thanks alot Dave! After 13 years, I'm finally happy I am getting out. 1 more week to go 😀. I still have 4 years of college left, but thats alright.

Haha, well, the only reason why I'm away from them, is because I couldn't get them in the first place 😉. I think I'd be more than happy to ditch my current job for a computer job 🙂.

the only place ive ever worked is mcdonalds... 😱 but im in the same position as you now, looking for a job. im going for a retail/sales position... i dunno i figured id try it. i like people for the most part, so it couldnt be that bad... ... ...
 
I've worked at Walmart for over 3 years, it sucks, but the pay is a lot better than burger flipping and the job is always waiting there for me when I come home from school.
 
i actually like working computer tech help... sorta... so long as the idiot clients I can avoid......

but yeah, data entry is easy... or maybe your local college might have something as well. since they are your college, you might be able to have something very flexible to work w/ your schedule.
 
My first few jobs sucked. I only found one job I liked and that lasted about a year. Then it went all down hill although I still managed to make it into work. I like what I do now, call center. I'd like it if I were actually in the IT department though rather than the call center. I enjoy working with computers.
 
Well, I recently went back to get my masters degree and I found the perfect job, even though the pay is not spectacular. I am a ranger on a golf course. Starting pay is $12 an hour, and all the golf you can play. I love it.......🙂


And by the way, Caddyshack is not that far from the truth.....🙂
 
driving a courier is fun as hell. outdoor work like landscaping isnt bad.

the reason you hate foodservice is because you work at a franchise. bump up to one of the classier joints in your area. mental 24/7. i'll never forget when i got my first job slinging dishes and one of the fry cooks did half a sheet of acid about an hour into his shift (my vewwy fiwst expewience wif hawd dwugs). its like...the industry where all crazies go to die. cannot be beat, neh way.

if you're boring, just go work at a big box. they'll take anyone.
 
I'm working at the zoology department in my school and I love it. A good variety of stuff to do so you don't get bored.
