Is it any good? I have COX cable right now, but it sucks. Thinking about making the switch to DSL. Also, can you get multiple IP addresses for other computers or do you have to share internet access?

Verizon has been providing me with great access for almost a year now. I have multiple IP's, but they are issued through my university since Purdue and Verizon have a special deal worked out for Off Campus students. Even though I have the multiple IP's, I don't use them and use a router instead.

I've had Verizon DSL for months and it's just plain crap.

When it's running normally, everything goes pretty fast, but for some reason there are MANY speed drops at any given time.

Their technical support fix? Unplug the cable modem and restart machine. Um, yeah.. this happens multiple times a day.... friggin annoying :disgust:

I think we'll be switching to either AT&T or RCN cable instead of verizon dsl soon....

Had it for 2 years hated it but this is in northern NJ. My buddy in Boston has had it for 3 years and it's been great with minimal downtime.

It really depends on where you are located.

Had Verizon DSL here in Durham, NC and I recently switched to Earthlink cable. FWIW, the DSL wasn't that bad, but since I was so far away from the CO I was limited in how fast it would be. I got no faster than 351 down/120 up. But it was rock stable. I switched because they were charging me $49.95 a month for it and Earthlink cable was $42.99 a month. I average around 1100/300 now. When I called to cancel the DSL they offered me 3 months free and then 6 months free. I almost took them up on it, but I wanted the speed. If they'd offered it to me at $30 a month I would have jumped, but they didn't.

A satisfied verizon dsl customer in nyc...great speed, multiple ip possibility (just don't do it too much as its not supposed to be allowed), and very reasonable cost. Never had a speed drop, in fact it runs very close to 100% of advertised speed, sometimes slightly greater than advertised.

I've got it in north Dallas and it is pretty good. It acts up everyonce in a blue moon but I haven't had it go completely donw before. As usual with a high speed connection, I'm more limited by server's speed of the page I'm accessing than anything else.

edit: I don't know about the multiple IP's though. I just use a firewall router and don't worry about it. I think you can have more than one login, but you have to pay more. I'm assuming that mean's multiple IP's.

COX right now sucks and it's expensive. We're paying 48.00 a month for speeds in the 100 range. I was considering switching because Verizon has a deal where it's 29.95 for three months, but I need to find out about the additional IP thing. I guess I'll have to actually talk to someone in person. :D
