I really need some help. And so do others.

I recently built a system using the ABIT KT7-RAID and have had no problems with the floppy drive. What is it acually doing? Is the
light staying on constant?

No, it goes on for about half a second then goes off. Like it read the floppy but didn't read the diskette.

jsbush, I have to apologize for I haven't read your previous thread on this issue. It looks like some ideas I was going to give you has already been stated by others. That's a really weird problem. A floppy drive cable is easy to get the polarity incorrect on the mobo as a simple 180 twist to orientate pin 1 corrects the problem. You may have a conflict in Win98 with another device maybe? Did you check control panel \system \device manager \floppy drives and check for conflicts? I wish I could be of more help but this is a new one on me! I will ask around to see if any of my co-workers have had a similar prob.

Others say that its a problem with the bois version UL, it gives low voltage to the floppy. I'll have to try there beta bois. Has anyone tried it? and do you get if from the abit web site? I only saw two versions on there.

I kinda had the same prob w/ an Abit KT7. When I was trying to boot w/ a floppy to fdisk/format a new system, the drive sometimes wouldn't read the disk. I just kept restarting till it worked though!! I thought it was the crappy p/s, but after I read this, I see it may be something more....

Well I just tried the Beta UZ bois and the same thing. I tried the older TL bois same thing. Now I'm back to the UL bois, if it's the board then forget it! I'm not sending this back. Just in case I change my mind do I need to pay anything to have it RMA?

Try hooking it up to a different Power supply cable inside your computer.
Is boot floppy selected in Bios
Do you have floppy selected as first device.
Try a different floppy cable also

I tried a different power connector.
Boot floppy is selected in the Bois.
The floppy is selected as the first boot device.
I've tried a different floppy cable. (like 10)

I have the same problem. Iam building a Athlon Thinderbird with the abit KT7 mobo and i put it all together and it wont read the floppy drive, so i cant Fdisk and format to even load windows!! I tried new floppy cable and another known good floppy drive still no good, Tommarro i call tech support for a replacemnet mobo. Must be a common problem with these mobo's!!! I hope i get a good one next time. And yes its set to boot off floppy and i tried another power line. Its getting power as the light does come on but it doesnt read the floppy. I tried several differnt boot floppies i have made but no good.

No problems w/KT7-R........board came w/UL bios installed......floppy works fine.....

I had a cable w/center locating plastic lug, so I figured I could not screw up the #1 pin....
not so!............I had to replace it w/a smooth connector cable and reverse plug.
My floppy is a Sony............................$19.- OEM so I didn't know which pin was # 1 !

I had a little problem with my floppy when I first set up my system.
I had a LS120 installed too, I had to remove the LS120 to get my regular floppy to boot.
I haven't had any trouble since I took out the LS120
