according to the website the air flow is suppost to be downwards, towards the heatsink and not upwards sucking up the heat.

I currently have mine facing upwards, sucking in the heat, I guess when I get home from work I'll switch it around...does this make a difference in cooling performance? Right now my cpu temp is 47C thanks to the Delta High Flow (loud a$$) fan.

im using a 60mm swiftec with a papst high rpm fan, the fan is pointing downward. with no shroud on the heatsink it probably doesnt perform as well with the fan pointing up

after switching it temps went from being 49C idle to 41C idle and 51C load to 42C load. It made a huge difference.
