According to Best buy it is:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...57231&type=product

but I don't trust BB, they are notoriously wrong on such things since no one else mentions it is a winmodem. AFAIK external modems, are never if rarely winmodems. The reason I ask, is because if it is not a Winmodem then it should work OK in Linux.

I'm pretty sure external modems are all hardware modems, not winmodems.

ALL USB MoDems ARE "SOFT" or "WinMoDems! Just try to get one to work without any driver. They also use more resources than PCI "soft" or "WinMoDems". Only go with a USB MoDem as a last resort.
. It is normal serial (RS-232) external MoDems that are full Hardware MoDems. They will work just fine without ANY driver - though they may work better if you install their (usually less than 2kB) .INF file into Win.
