This is kind of random...but doesn't it sound so much better when you lightly squish the headphone cups to your ears with your hand like a vice? It's a shame, because it sounds so much better that way for me. Weird. I've got Sennheiser HD457 headphones, and the bass sounds deep as HELL that way, and the sound sounds so much more "direct". Maybe I'll duct tape them to my face.

Yes it does, probably because you're getting a more direct sound rather than having outside noises distort it, but who knows.

Depends on the cans. I have a pair of in-ear Sonys that already sound like you've got your hands pressed against your ears, which is how they're designed.

Yeah, that's why a sales guy can make a sale for a higher markup speaker...by demoing it at higher volume levels. Louder is better.

Headphone drivers are very tiny. They are outputting very faintly. Squeeze the cans to your head and you are now half an inch away from the drivers, instead of an inch. That much louder : P

Also if you have loose-fitting headphones, there are plenty of places for sound to leak out (not to mention open-aire headphones). Covering the "open manhole" and pressing the can to your skin so the sound that normally would be lost to the open air instead to increase the SPL of the internal reflections...would result in greater volume.

Turn it up if you can't hear it well enough : P
