Anyone who uses DIXIESYS webhosting, specifically last year's 2 for 1 deal , got a question

I got in on last year's Dixiesys hosting 2 for 1 deal... now my question is, when that runs out, does my hosting just stop? I don't get automatically renewed or anything, right? End of next month it will run out, and I am starting to look for other hosting options. I just don't want to end up finding a new host then getting billed again as a renewal or something at dixiesys.

This is the first time I ever had paid web hosting so I don't know how that works, and their website doesn't seem to be all that helpful.

Either way, I've been looking at http://www.alterahosting.com , I think I may go with them. Seem to get good reviews at WHT, any of you ever use them?

so i'll stay with the same 2 for 1 plan even though that was some kind of special deal? can anyone confirm one way or another?

yes, my expired and was offer to renew.. but instead i went to their 3-95 company and went with the 600 megger (similar 2-1 sale) for 3.95 month instead of the dixie 250/500

if u want to cancel dixie, u must tell them, they have auto-renewal on

Renew with 1and1.com's freebie deal. It's a bit awkward (All your usernames are random alphanumeric) but it's free and totally badass.

Autorenewal is turned on and you will get the exact same hosting specs that you are getting right now.

i signed up for that 1and1 but its control panel is garbage, site is slow and its just too much of a PITA.

if i am going to get that same deal i signed up for i probably will just stick with dixiesys...to be honest i don't even remember what the details of the plan were...do you guys have the specifics? (i think i remember paying $40..rather than getting 2 accounts i got the doubled single account)

http://www.alterahosting.com/shosting.html I was looking at their 2nd tier package... which would you guys go with? altera or keep the dixiesys?

Do you have any reason to leave Dixiesys? Most likely no and moving web sites can be a PITA.

I vote stay at Dixiesys (where's the poll) and Altera charges way to much for what you're getting from an unknown web hosting company.

Check out AddAction.net as well which hosts GottaDeal.com, PlanetHzl.com, YAGT.org and a few dozen other AT'ers web sites.

It's $3.04 cheaper than AlteraHosting, you get DOUBLE the disk space, a newer version of cPanel (v8 instead of v5), bluetrix cPanel skin with 14+ auto install scripts, good 24/7 tech support, etc.

If you've had no problems or reasons to leave Dixiesys, I'd suggest staying with them.

Ross, would you still recommend staying w/ dixiesys if the choices were between them and AddAction?

edit: I don't necessarily have any reason to leave, I just was not sure what plan I'd be getting again at Dixiesys, but I emailed Gary and he said I'd just renew with the same plan I had before, just like you guys said. I wasn't sure though. (i still dont remember the specifics of the plan tho)

However that auto-install feature for phpnuke, phpbb etc that AddAction has is very nice.

edit again:

I don't really run a legit website either, perse. I use it for email accounts, backing up some files, a fantasy hockey league website and I plan to start an inline hockey related message board. who knows if that will take off, though.

For me it all boils down to $ and AFAIK few web hosts can match Dixiesys at $40/yr.

So if you're willing to pay more and want more, then sure go elsewhere just make sure to first do your research on the web hosts you're considering.

Just my $.02, but i've been with ThrillHost for a few months now and it has been fantastic! 🙂

I've been through many hosts (as rossman can attest to), including (but not limited to) Dixiesys, Manlius, Dathorn, and many others... ThrillHost has been top notch...

What were the specifications of the Dixiesys $40/year offering?

I think I'mjust gonna stay with Dixiesys...probably the best deal, and no hassle of moving everything over.

Thanks Ross.

HostPC has a killer $25/year deal running through (I think) Nov 18. 300MB/ 8GB Bandwidth.

Great Host - Great Support! Nearly all new servers.

But Rossman's right (duhhh... ) - moving hosts is a major PITA, so unless you've got a specific reason for wanting to leave Dixiesys, I wouldn't.

Good idea, and moving web sites can be a major PITA.
