You couldn't just say "voice actor?" If you're going to use Japanese terms for common words/phrases, might as well make the entire post unreadable to normies.

n0monkey, unlike american/british (is there such thing? not sure but anyway...) cartoons made for kids and voiced by mr. nobody, CV is a huge part of anime. of course there are these hollywood stars doing the voice acting for disney films, but its not their main line of work. on the other hand, these people are dedicated to voice acting of anime chacracters; there is no direct equivalent term and in english, which makes me assume using the term conveys more precise meaning. take otaku for instance, you could vaguely refer to it as a fanatic, but that wont exactly carry the same connotative meaning.

one of the things that makes Mai HiME an enjoyable show it is now is the fabulous CV cast. Nakahara Mai does the voice for Tokiha Mai, the heroine of the show. IIRC, she really became one of the most popular seiyuu's with her splendid work in Onegai Twins.

The word means "voice actor." Period. The end. It doesn't mean anything if no one but snobbish anime kids know what it means.

There are plenty of voice actors in the US that make their money doing nothing more. And like I said, give me money and I'll get an English cartoon made that blow everything else out of the water. 😉

if you are asking a question on anime other than for flaming purposes, i am inclined to think you are comfortable with the terminology. if you go to japanese restaurant, would it be more appropriate use the word 'bean curd' instead of 'tofu'? ultimately, it is up to you to pick which word you would go with, and i would go with the term that best represents the object i am reffering to. another example: at AT forums, people would use the term LCD or AG-based tube instead of 'flat screen'. undoubtedely flat screen is a more commonly accepted and widely used word, yet we prefer the word that best describes what we are referring to.
(again, this is an anime related thread. unless your sole purpose here is to flame the posters, you would be genuinely interested in anime if you are asking questions)

seiyuu is an established term for anime fans, go on animenfo and they even have it built it to their search engine.

and no thx, i dont want any substandard cartooons 😛

Tofu is a common word. LCD is the correct term. "Voice actor" is fine.

I like some anime. I don't care enough to get to touchy about it though. Mess with comics and you'll have a mad monkey on your hands though. 😛

It wouldn't be.

LCD isnt so common. most 'real people' give me a 'wtf?' look when i utter that word. its all about the relativity; AT is relatively techier so LCD is preffered, and this thread happens to be meant for anime fans.
why do we use the term 'nef' when it doesnt even exist in the dictionary? maybe cuz we like the word better than some other word that closely resembles the meaning of it.

maybe OP should have put up a lil sign that says "anime bashers need not apply" 😛

Maybe it's different in GA, but in my area LCD is very common. (not meant as an insult or anything)

I'm not bashing anime. I'm bashing you. 😛 If you can't laugh at yourself, what fun would it be? (I laugh about my comic obcession all the time 🙂)

There are speakers on the tv for a reason. Subtitles are too distracting.

maybe you arent too experienced. just watch some more and you will grow used to it.

onsokumaru without Wakamoto Norio's voice?
maia without Nakahara Mai's voice
vanilla without Kanai Mika's voice?
komugi without Momoi Haruko's voice?
the list goes on and on...

i would rather watch it muted than having the image ruined by some halfassed imitation.

Yes. If I wanted to read I'd pick up a friggin comic book. Comics > anime.
to each his own, and btw manga > any western comics 🙂

hahaha, unleashing the otaku power.
superotakujin level 2!
kanai mika <3 purin, tifa. woo

heh, none of the series i am into but still a funny flash.
and subbed anime is one of the worst thing this world has spawned. forget about awesome CV, now that takes half of fun away from watching stuff.

So everyone should learn Japanese? 😕

better if you do, cuz much of comedy involves cultural jokes and play on words. some subbers do a pretty good job however. school rumble was one of best english fansubs i seen in contrast GA subs which should burn in hell ~_~

If I wanted to watch something funny, I'd turn on the BBC. Anime is about tits, ass, and tentacles violating school girls. Oh yeah, and giant robots demolishing planets.

dont forget charging up for 8 episodes to launch a spirit bomb
