I am not watching it, but Lincoln did not fight the war to free the slaves. As a matter of fact Lincoln thought blacks were only 3/5 of a person. On the flip side Robert E Lee did not even believe in slavery. Go figure

ok i didn't know that about Lee. actually i may have read that somewhere. he didnn't like slavery but believed the states should have the right to make that decision or something like that.

If I recall correctly, Lincoln wanted the republic together at all costs. He knew if it was half free, or half slave it wouldn't work, the entire house of cards bit. It was not that he wanted to free the slaves, it was that freeing the slaves was the only option to keep the united states together during that period. I'm sure if you went up to Lincoln and said "Ok, you keep the union together but you legalize slavery in the entire united states" he would of wholeheartedly agreed. The United States' preservation was his priority, not the slaves.

ok. this was disappointing.
the show re-wrote history. it made Lincoln out to be a man driven to abolish slavery and for equal rights. WTF do they have to do that? just tell the truth and facts. don't try to change how history was.

Total BS.
Slavery was the hot topic button of it's time to get public support for the war.

You nailed it. And for that he is to be applauded. His goal was to keep the union and that was his greatest accomplishment. The slave trade was common place around the world at that time, let's not forget that. Lincoln didn't want to free the common practice around the world of owning slaves (bought and paid for by their African masters), but to keep the union.
So many people forget what USA really means.

I don't think slavery was as common as you think. I'm pretty sure the British abolished it 50 years earlier. And at that time in history Britain was 25% of the world.

Having a law stating that slavery is illegal is different than actually abolishing its practice. The British Empire practiced slavery into the 20th century. They just gave it a new name - colonialism.
