Anyone watching Squid Game on Netflix? #1 show in 90 countries now...

It's basically Hunger Game meets Battle Royale meets Kdrama character development. It's very gory.. and to my surprise, facking heartbreaking (in a typical K-drama manner).

I like it because it criticizes lots of things about Korea. No pretty superheroes or hot girls.

It's disturbing and awesome.

I grew up playing those games, wow.

Yes, I've watched the first 5, 4 to go. My biggest complaint so far is just how stupid the main guy is. Like holy shit, it takes me out of the show stupid.

I made it through episode #1, with the help of doing other stuff on my laptop, then removed it from my watch list, and continue watching list.

He is tough to watch in the beginning a bit but it all smooths out and the show is well worth it. Episode 6 is the standout episode. The one other thing that is a bit hamfisted like the main character in the beginning episode are the VIP's, which you will see later. But overall the show was excellent.

Yeah, we were talking about this in the show ratings thread.

I'm looking forward to Season 2 of this, along with the game show spin-off that someone has to be working on where they reenact some of the games with real players. Nobody is going to get hurt, obviously, but the concept of a multi round game with lots of players competing a big cash prize where you get eliminated quickly if you screw up would be fun to watch. It's like Survivor, only on a grander scale! Bonus points if you can place wagers on who wins 🙂

Isn't it just run of the mill death game? Pretty old genre really. I am waiting for season 2 of Alice in Borderland.

The anime was done in 2014.

I was just in Korea and Squid Game is HUGE over there. Everything related to the show like red clothing jumpsuits and the sugar candy making kits are all sold out nationwide. SK Telekom also sued Netflix because of heavy network traffic loads caused by Squid Game show. Netflix is seeing huge new subscribers signup all over the world just to watch this show. Popularity of the Squid Game show is why I believe Netflix stock price recently broke out and hit all time high. It's pretty nuts what one show can do.

It was OK - 1st episode was by far the best before it turned into a "drama" show. Stop plyaing the game on emotions, only to win, which means others must die. Value your life over anything.....

Why a few characters stood above the rest.

Finished it last night, ugh main guy doesn't disappoint with his stupidity up to the very end.

I am almost done, have last 2 episodes left. So far it is just OK. Biggest problem for me is that none of the characters (aside from the Pakistani and North Korean girl) are likeable, so I don't really care if they die. Also the games are boring/uninteresting.

I enjoyed Alice in Borderland MUCH more.

It was ok. Ending pretty much sucked though. Well, not like all time bad (I mean its not a fade to black gunshot or...whatever the fuck happened on Game of Thrones, or anything), just meh as all get out. Also two of the "twists" were obvious from about the first moment you saw the characters it involved.

Creator "And then Donald Trump became the president of the United States and I think he kind of resembles one of the VIPs in the Squid Game," he explained. "It’s almost like he’s running a game show, not a country, like giving people horror. After all these issues happened, I thought it was about time that this show goes out into the world."
