Who's the guy playing the husband of the murder victim. He looks familiar, but I can't come up with a name.

TIA

Since you guys are busy talking about another show on a thread about this show, I'm guessing Elementary wasn't that good? :p I'm not sure why they'd make this after BBC ran the relatively well-liked Sherlock series.

he was the nervous analyst on Rubicon who was separated from his wife.

the show has some pacing issues and the dialogue isnt nearly fast enough to fake sounding like it is cleverer than it is. its also missing the character insight that pervades Sherlock or even HouseMD. part of the deductive insight that defines holmes is that you already know when people are lying and what the truth is. the real hinge point is why they are lying.

they'll need to work on a character viewpoint if they want to differentiate him from all the other sleuth shows.

It was interesting. I felt like they gave away Watson's back story/ why she was there too early. Also that its like Sherlock has Aspergers too.

the reveal timing isnt an issue, what they did with it is. the point is that people are an open book to holmes, awash with information. the reveal plops out as a one note plot device to threaten the relationship/contract. it would have been more interesting if he was using it from square one to manipulate her in little ways over and over to protect his brownstone.
true aspergers would be more interesting in that the character would be more disfunctional(we've seen that with Monk), but the Sherlock approach of him being more sociopath is more appropriate.

What a great show, it had so much potential, why oh why did AMC kill it?

too cerebral and abstract. if you arent already familiar with intelligence/analysis work and the way counter terrorism develops assets, the critical plot developments werent always apparent.

Elementary wasnt too bad. I think Lucy Liu is somewhat miscast here, but I like Jonny Lee Miller's interpretation of Sherlock Holmes. This could grow into something interesting.

Bigtime miscast. But she's not terrible.

All in all, it was very interesting. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. :)

I think it could become interesting. They will need better writers though.

If he is so observant how come he didn't know the suicide was faked as soon as he saw the body?

I went in with very low expectations. Have to say that it isn't terrible.

He knew something was off, but couldnt prove it.
Kinda like how he knew Watson's parents were divorced...he used Google.
:p They are implying he doesnt magically pull clues from the ether.
One thing they didnt show is how the husband was able to kill a steroid raging psychopath, and do it so that he could stage a suicide convincingly. The husband had good plan, but physically didnt seem up to the task. It also seems he could have simply killed his wife himself. Using the psychopath is what got him caught.

The guy had the gun in his hand. With a suicide by firearm the gun is never in the hand unless it is taped or glued to the hand. You can't hold onto the gun when you are dead. The recoil will move the firearm.

Thats interesting.
I dont think its a given that the gun will always be in the hand, but in thinking about it, it would be suspicious. Especially considering he was on the kitchen floor, not in a chair or bed, so the gun should have come out of his hand when he fell. Unless he was still alive and died on the floor. I just looked at the scene again, and the body was being carted out when Sherlock arrived. So its possible that he would have questioned it if he had scene the body in the original position. The Captain saw the body the way the viewer did.
