It's a reality show and too scripted.

John, watches form SUV: "place is fucked up"
John, walks in yelling.
Everyone yells.
Test night, event is a failure.
More yelling, then rebuilding.
Opening night, it's a success!
Rinse
Lather
Repeat.

His wife has big tits though.

I have yet to see him convey his expertise on the show. It is always idiot level advice like : don't serve rotten food, clean the place up, don't cater to dirtbag clients, sell more profitable items, don't be piss drunk every night, etc. He may as well be an actor.
You haven't watched enough then.

Ok, that is fair. I guess the level of expertise that would make him one of the top experts in the bar industry is what I haven't seen.

I can go into a bar and say:

-Stop getting drunk at work.
-Clean up this fucking pigsty.
-Sell high profit margin liquor.
-Hire a real bartender.
-Serve decent food in a timely fashion.
-Fire your dumbest employees.
-Lets renovate this place.

Like... this should be the ABC's for a small business owner. I get no deeper insight from the guy.

A lot of his advice is about branding and marketing to the consumer base around your bar. Something that does require expertise. Plus, most of the bar's problems are the inability of management. Identifying who is the best candidate must be pretty hard for some people, because managers in a lot of places are fucking morons.
