yea i saw it, pretty weird. but the weirdness does fit that format better. i have the book and didn't really like the gimmic of packaging science into fake sex advice columns for animals. too fluffy..probably because i've read some of the stuff in other more serious books. but it works ok on tv. yes, nature would make the baby jesus cry.

Reproduction in the female spotted hyena has sparked intense scientific interest because the animal is extremely masculinized from high levels of male hormones and she gives birth through an elongated clitoris the same size as a penis. Scientists have wondered what evolutionary advantage could offset the dangers of this strange reproductive system.

In the show they said that 1 in 10 female hyenas that give birth die from it. Imagine giving birth to something that rips out of your vagina that is the size of a males penis :Q

1 in 10 isn't far off from what human females had to look forward to before scientific medicine. Human infants' heads are incredibly relatively large.
Ie. in the other great apes, infants weigh about 2-3% of the mother at birth, whereas in humans our infants weigh about 6-7% of the mother at birth.
