I like the concept of the show and wonder if it will spread to more cities.

I watch it occasionally, not on purpose

The one I really enjoyed was this couple, made about 800 and then got to the double or nothing question

chick wanted it, guy didn't, chick won out

question was asked "what material is mount rushmore made out of"

they were both WTF, girl guessed granite at last second, both expected to lose everything - they walked out with 1600.

i used to watch it a lot but they started showing reruns and i stopped watching as i remembered answers/how they did. its been awhile, is it still only in new york? i thought i read somewhere that they were considering other locations.

by the way, i would go for the bonus at the end everytime. i went in with nothing, so why not chance it? besides, the video clue and question seem to not be all that hard a lot of the times.

Is it one of those recumbent exercise bikes?

They give out cash right? I can't wait for a time when some New Yawka decides to pull a piece on him and demands the money. I hope they send the cam feed somewhere outside the cab for their own protection.

yeh, they give out cash. maybe the contestants are screened beforehand? i dunno.

i watch this show partially when I am making dinner. Just because i like trivia shows. Sometimes the double or nothing questions are super easy and sometimes they are mind bogglingly hard. I would just take the money and run before that.

Do they get the cash tax free though?

Watch the credits and you will notice that the contestants are pre-sreened, I suppose that when they are "surprised" it is an act on thier part.

The United States version of Cash Cab airs on the Discovery Channel. Some pre-screening of contestants occurs, although the contestants are not alerted to the actual nature of their participation. Once a passenger or group of passengers has been picked up, they must state their destination. Seasons 1-3 took place in New York City. Anyone who hails the Cash Cab (a Toyota Sienna minivan with medallion number 1G12) does not know that they are about to be on a game show until they hire the cab and the driver informs them of the rules.

At the conclusion of the ride, winners are given what is essentially counterfeit cash; it's not real money, it's strictly for show. Once contestants have exited the Cash Cab, a camera crew from the trailing production car is already on the street waiting to film them walking away from the cab, win or lose. Contestants are filmed for approximately 10-15 seconds (though only about 5 seconds of this film is used in final production) walking away from the cab, however the winners must return the fake cash and a check is mailed to them with appropriate taxes deducted.

When that show comes on is about the only time I change the channel from there. And then I go to Spike TV and hope Star Trek Voyager or CSI is on. If not, TV goes off again.

The people always look geniunely surprised to me, my guess is the pre-screening has to do with agreeing to be on camera. If they answer no then there's no point in continuing.

I've never seen a smart person on that show. But then again, I can't really complain, I guarantee if I were on I'd miss just about every pop culture question they throw at me.
