Damn tonsils, protecting you from harmful bacteria and viruses. Damn you to hell, Tonsils.

In the case of cryptic tonsils, they can actually *harbor* bacteria, which is what you see when a tonsillolith comes out.

I had strep throat 4 times in as many months a couple years back, so I had my tonsils removed. I haven't been sick since.

Holy crap i didn't know this happened to people. I still have my tonsils and never had one of these. Maybe I did, some small ones, but i always thought it was from smoking ciggs.

I dont even wanna begin to imagine what they smell like ..

Many people get them, but usually they go down your throat when your eating.

Carbonated drinks help get mine up as well.

For me, they form in a crevice between my tonsil and my mouth. I usually can't feel them unless there is one actually coming out of the crevice.

I worry one will end up not coming out and give me tonsilitis or some junk.

I think you should send in a submission to Fear Factor and have a challenge where there is a jar of tonsilloliths blended with egg nog, and you have to drink it with small tonsillolith chunks.

mmmmm....mighty tasty.

Try eating it se7en7y.

I'd much rather have my tonsills and deal with a few tonsill stones then not have my tonsills.

Do they come in handy for you?

That's disgusting.

I never even knew about this until someone else posted about this (maybe it was you?) Nobody I know has ever gotten this.

Perhaps these come from people with poor diets and drink too much soda or something?

No, it has nothing to do with diets... it's simply a question of, if you wish, "internal geography" of the inside of your mouth. Some people are born with more wrinkles and crevices in the back of their mouth ... nothing you can do about it.

I got them once in a while when I smoked cigarettes. Was under the impression it was a thrush infection. The smell is indescribably bad.

Well, seeing as I never get sick, I guess they are doing their job.

I used to get them pretty often. I had huge tonsils and would occassionaly clean out the crevices with a cotton swab. Big tonsil, I tell ya.
However, I had them removed when I was 18, like7 or so years ago. Needless to say haven't had them since then.

I was one of those odd-ball people in that it was a good thing to get my tonsil removed.

Huge I tell ya.

That's sick. Don't they give you bad breath if they smell so bad? Can you feel them back there, or do you just cough them up? Is this mostly for people who smoke?
