IMO a physical keyboard on a tablet is more useful than on a tiny phone. Why aren't there any tablets with slide out physical keyboard?

No because a tablet is only for casual use, CASUAL USE. If you are going to be doing any serious typing, that's when you bust out your laptop.

when you say tablet, what size are you talking about? I can't imagine an iPad with a slide out keyboard. and if you want it to slide out and tilt up, I can't imagine it maintaining it's sleekness to support that kind of weight. At that point, your asking for a traditional tablet PC... or, you want that redesigned w/ the new tablet based OSes.

But regardless, I'd rarely want a keyboard for a tablet, but I would like the option to attach a BT one, of my choice, to it when I did want it.

I think you just don't understand what people want from a tablet. And it's not keyboards.

Instead of people, maybe it's just what you want is different? I know I would like to get a tablet and not try to type on a virtual keyboard.

10". Companies need to come up with a tablet with a keyboard that actually looks good if they expect people to replace their laptops with tablets.

Then sell all your laptops and get an iPad and the bluetooth keyboard. A tablet is a casual device in addition to your laptops. It is not something to replace them.

It may be a casual device for now. Do you think it will always be that way? People used to use PDAs but now every smartphone has that feature.

Of course for now. We don't know what's going to happen years from now but it's just the way it is. That's why business people still prefer Blackberry devices. You get the device that suits your needs more. If you want to be a hardcore typer, get a laptop. If you want a casual device that's easier to use then get a tablet.

Wouldn't a tablet by definition, not have a keyboard?

Plus, the current tablet offerings will tether to a wireless keyboard.

Tablets have been around prior to iPads. General parlance says a tablet is a portable computer that has a swivel or removable display That display is often a touch screen. Before all this iPad hype, they pre-date netbooks as well. (A netbook is merely a cheap notebook.) They sometimes included a keyboard. HP made one 2-3 years ago.

Of course tablets have been around before there was an iPad. No one has ever said they didn't.

I think this is where your problem lies. Companies don't want tablets to replace laptops, they want it to be a new separate market in addition to laptops.

It's like saying there should be a car engine on my bike so I can take my bike instead of my car.

A tablet has its uses for casual use and consumption, laptops are for more serious work. I think if any company that comes out with an "all in one" device tablet, its gonna fail super hard.

We aren't gonna get "all in one" devices unless someone pulls an interface like off of Minority Report/Iron Man. Until something crazy like that happens, we will have separate devices for separate needs.

A lot of people use home laptops only for casual use and content consumption. For them, a tablet can be an "all in one" device. The hardware is powerful enough for that already.
