Just finished watching and for some reason i'm thourougly confused. Who is the old guy at the end? How did he know they were engaged? Was it just me or was the plot a little weak?

SPOILERS BELOW.....

i thought the movie had loads of potential but was really poorly handled.

the old guy is the russian government official that morgan freeman pointed out to ben affleck in the middle of the movie. he's been a cia spy for dozens of years working at the top level of the russian government. that's what that meant.

one of the worst parts of the movie is how they handle the fact that untold thousands were killed in a nuke in Baltimore.... basically, by the 'neo-nazis' getting offed at the end, all that is trivialized. also, those stupid neonazis are barely in the movie... the bad guy menace has no presence.

the book is like a billion times better and makes perfect sense.

the old guy was a russian intelligence officer who advised the russian president. he fed info to the director of the cia, and he fed some back.

I liked the movie but it was no "Patriot Games" or "Clear and Present Danger"

phew. I'm glad more people didn't enjoy the movie. I've read a lot of Tom Clancy books and loved them all, but I've been waiting for Sum of All fears to get on paperback so I can buy it for 5$ at costco :)

Very true. The movie was a disgrace compared to the book. They took a well-known name and exploited it with a medicore (at best) picture.

I watched it last weekend.
They did a poor job with that movie and as a result, it sucked.

Since it's left to the readers Imagination would a person that says the movie is better then the book basically saying "It's better then my mental capacity"?

So isn't that obvious? ;)

I read the book a long time ago (when it came out..)

I think originally it was Arab terrorists. I think Hollywood was a bunch of pansies to switch it from the Arabs... to the Russians like in the movie.

That's what I kept trying to figure out.... how could you have a "happy" ending when a nuke goes off on US soil...
