I'm debating the Droid vs Eris phones right now. Think I would prefer the Dragon/Passion as I don't really need the physical keyboard. Plannning on waiting till Jan 1, 2010 to see if HTC does release the Dragon/Passion, if not I will probably get the Eris until the Dragon does come out.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm real tempted to just grab a droid, but something tells me to wait a bit more. I don't necessarily need the keyboard and it would be nice to have slimmer profile so it fits in my pocket better.

The Droid isn't that big actually, it looks big in pictures but it's pretty slim. Compared to my old 3GS, it's marginally thicker (like an 1/8th of an inch) and smaller in every other regard.

2.0 is currently still a bit buggy for some people (really depends on your primary usage), but there is an update slated for Dec. 11th that should fix most issues.

The Dragon sounds interesting, but if you're always waiting "for the next best thing" you'll always be waiting. Plus, there isn't any concrete evidence that is actually exists yet either.

the droid is a nice phone, but so far ive found no need for the keyboard. i went from an enV to an omnia, and i thought i would really miss the keyboard but i didnt. now that the guys here have me messing with their droids, i actually find it more cumbersome to use the keyboard. i got really used to having a full keyboard available with one hand typing. the phone is definitely cool tho, i like it so far. just not enough to get my own. i cant upgrade for a year anyway, so i have the time to wait for the dragon or other cool models to come out, as well as all the updates to fix the issues all the public beta testers are finding now.

Yeah, I've played with one and the size was fine. However the keyboard isn't too wonderful so I wonder how much i would really use it. It's likely a non keyboarded phone would be thinner, and i've gotten use to that with my samsung a727.

True, there's nothing official about it yet. Hopefully it is true though. I don't plan on waiting forever, but with these snapdragon phones so close I think I might as well wait a bit more.

Verizon now has a BOGO on the Droid. Call me crazy, but I now believe that the Passion will be available before the end of the year.

Not quite, you can either get 2 Eris's or 1 droid and 1 Eris. Still a nice deal though!

Same here. Ready to leave ATT and want an android phone. The Eris is free now online ( wirefly, letstalk, etc ) on 2-year, no activation fees either.

VERY tempting, but curious about 2nd generation android phones coming out. Wondering on cost of the Passion. My guess is it will be around $200 on contract. So a free free free phone ( yes, on contract ) now versus waiting to see what's coming.

And with the "mostly" confirmed 2.x update for the Eris and Sense UI ( I dig HTC's Sense ), makes the Eris a good buy now.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/08/htc-bravo-pictured-more-lucidly/

We realize we might have overfed you a little with that plentiful leak of HTC's 2010 plans, so here's a chance to better ogle and digest HTC's "Performance" flagship to be: the Bravo. Pairing Android with Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon and presenting a 3.7-inch AMOLED facade, this certainly ticks the headline boxes, and the addition of a five megapixel AF cam capable of 720p video capture gives it an extra sheen of 2010 newness. The picture above is accompanied by less solid info indicating a 1,400mAh battery, which will be joined by the mandatory WiFi, Bluetooth and MicroUSB connectivity, plus MicroSD expansion, FM radio tuner, digital compass, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Then again, the source is the same bunch of heroes responsible for our extra early -- and accurate -- info on the HD2, so those specs may be considered pretty reliable. Oh, if you're wondering about the touchscreen, it's capacitive, like it should be.

Update: If you were wondering about the difference between the Bravo and the recently leaked Passion, there is none other than the branding apparently. We're also hearing that the above handset will be available in the US in January, a cool three months ahead of the expected European release.

God I hope this is true. It's exactly what I want plus a few more things I don't need but are cool to have!

I was considering getting a Droid but with this news I might as well wait a little longer. I have a Tour and am just tired of it. But I can keep it long enough to see what happens in the next couple months.

No explicit confirmation that the Bravo/Passion is going to VZW, but it's the most logical destination. Holding off on my Droid purchase until January now...

From most of the reports it seemed basically guaranteed the Passion was heading to Verizon, different leaks and insider information regarding the Passion landing at Verizon.
It sounds like they "pushed back" the Passion/Bravo to January, which fits the original concept of Verizon getting the phone in Mid-December and a delay getting thrown on top.
